Milestone For On The Cards N In A Rosecroft Upset

On The Cards N winning at Rosecroft Raceway

Jared Moyer engineered a 21-1 upset with On The Cards N in the $17,143 Open Handicap Pace at Rosecroft Raceway on Monday, Oct. 5, using a ground-saving trip to propel the 11-year-old to the 50th win of his career.

On The Cards N was an unhurried fourth as 3-5 favourite Icaco Hanover (Russell Foster) and 4-5 second choice Dontmesswithles (Fern Paquet Jr.) threw down in a :25.2 first-quarter duel, with Icaco Hanover clearing from his outside post six to control middle splits of :54.4 and 1:22.4. As Tignanello (William Carter) angled off the pegs from third to take aim at the top flight heading to the far turn, Moyer pushed On The Cards N forward to close the gap left at the inside. The open stretch became available to On The Cards N when Dontmesswithles angled out of the pocket at the eighth pole and the Bettors Delight-Funontherun gelding shifted gears at first asking to eclipse runner-up Dontmesswithles by a half length in 1:51. Icaco Hanover, who was engulfed with 70 yards remaining, finished third.

Willard Reynolds trains On The Cards N for Mark Howard of Federalsburg, Maryland. The veteran pacer has earned eight of his victories this year in 30 starts, pushing his lifetime bankroll to $720,505. The 50-time winner has hit the board a total of 123 times in his career spanning 223 races.

On The Cards N paid $45.40 for the upset win.

Live harness racing returns to Rosecroft on Thursday, Oct. 8. The 13-race card includes a $1,797 carryover in the 50-cent Jackpot Hi-5, offered in the finale. First post is 7:15 p.m.
