Justcruiseonbye Stars For Piwniuk, Williams In The Loop Closer
Justcruiseonbye finished his sweep of the Golden Boy with a 5-1/2-length romp in the $12,633 final for three-year-old male pacers to head the procession of winners for leading driver Blake Piwniuk and top trainer Trevor Williams on the meet-ending card at The Loop on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The Lambretta-Blinkanyoumissit colt raced overland through a :30.1 first panel, then stole soft middle splits while leading unopposed at the half in 1:01.3 and three-quarters in 1:33.4. After a look back from Piwniuk revealed no danger, Justcruiseonbye sailed home under wraps to a 2:05.3 score. Jimmys Rockin (Tyler Grundy) was second, with Dial Direct (Richard Remillard) third.
Justcruiseonbye, second in the Manitoba Great Western Stake, has four wins in his last five starts and is six-for-13 on the year. Williams, of Winnipeg, Man. owns the colt, who has racked up seven wins from 23 career starts and earned $32,549. He paid $2.10 to win.
Piwniuk and Williams, who had six and five wins, respectively, also visited the winner's circle after the $7,100 Open Handicap Pace with Carving Credit. The four-year-old son of Up The Credit-Wynsum Lady came out of an early battle with the lead, having rebuffed Take Out Hanover (Darryl Mason) going to a :28.2 quarter. Those two renewed hostilities past the half in :59 as Take Out Hanover vacated the pocket, and the challenger was at the leader’s throat to three-quarters in 1:29 before Carving Credit lengthened his edge on the far turn. Take Out Hanover encroached again in the stretch, with Nonversation (Richard Remillard) charging on the outside, but was short by three-quarters of a length short as Carving Credit closed out a 2:00.1 victory. Nonversation finished third.
With his first start in Manitoba, Carving Credit improved to five-for-21 on the season. Williams also owns the gelding, an eight-time winner in 51 career outings with $53,268 in earnings. The win price was $6.10.
Williams closed out the 13-race card and the meet as Farmers Speed left Trapper Charlie (Cory Manning) 25-1/2 lengths behind in a match race for the $10,200 Juvenile final for rookie pacers. The two remained in touch through :31.1 and 1:01.2 early panels, but Farmers Speed poured it on in the back half, growing the edge to 7-1/2 lengths by three-quarters in 1:33.1 and stopping the clock in 2:05.2 as he sailed to victory. Farmers Speed, piloted by Marc Fillion to his fourth win in nine starts, has now earned $15,250 for owner-breeder Williams. The son of Resistance Futile-Farmers Rainbow paid $2.10 to win.
Gracie Ghost, who attempted a sophomore stakes double on the day by entering both the Silk Lace and Futurity finals, captured the former contest, for fillies, in a dominant showing. The daughter of Mr Rock-Alot Of Sense blasted to a :28.3 first quarter, leading by 11-1/2 lengths at that station, and produced middle panels of :59.4 and 1:32 with the field gradually encroaching. The Clayton Braybrook trainee was never in danger, however, and coasted to the line to win the $11,906 event in 2:03 with Braybrook at the lines. Libbys Delight (Piwniuk) closed the gap to 4-1/4 lengths in second, with Peytons Premiere (Michel Rey) third.
The win upped Gracie Ghost’s totals to six wins from 14 starts and $29,456 in earnings — later to be increased to $33,287 — for owner Alice Gilbert of Brandon, Man. She returned $2.50 to win.
Buzznlikeabumblbee foiled the double attempt by the Manitoba Great Western winner, fending off Gracie Ghost's first-over attempt to win the $15,324 Futurity final for sophomore pacers. The two went in opposite directions off the car, with Buzznlikeabumblbee racing uncovered to the top before a :29.4 quarter for Richard Remillard while Gracie Ghost dropped to fifth and last for Braybrook. Gracie Ghost got in gear on the first trip down the backstretch and reached the wheel of the leader as they raced to the half in :59.3, then pressured him into the third turn. She retreated into the pocket as they went to three-quarters in 1:31.3 and had nothing left with which to re-rally as Buzznlikeabumblbee rolled away by 10-1/4 lengths to prevail in 2:02.4. Peytons Premiere (Michel Rey), the show finisher in the Silk Lace, collected another third-place cheque.
Buzznlikeabumblbee’s first stakes win was his fifth overall tally on the season in eight starts, raising his earnings to $19,544. Tara Isman conditions the son of Sunshine Beach-Emmasphere and co-owns him with Garett Isman of Calgary, Alta. The win price was $3.20.
Braybrook also scored a pair of late-card training wins with Acquired Taste ($12.10) and Irish Jean ($12.20), both of whom he piloted to victory, to land a conditioning triple. His trainees are now 17-for-103 overall this year.
Williams and Piwniuk also combined to win with De La Cruz ($2.50) in the eighth race and Playtime Jimmy ($3.10) in the ninth. Piwniuk got his other wins with Tina La Vida ($2.10) in the second for Aurel Vodon and Gamines Star ($2.70) in the fifth for Travis Tracey.
The reinsman claimed the driving title at The Loop with 36 wins in 79 starts for a win rate of 45.6 per cent. Piwniuk also led all sulkysitters in earnings with $128,800 and has racked up 66 wins from 210 drives overall in 2026. Braybrook’s driving triple brought him into a tie for second with Michel Rey on 13 wins.
Williams, with a five-for-six finale, finished with 28 wins from 41 starts — a clip of 68.3 per cent — at The Loop and is 37-for-52 in total this year. His $90,884 earned at The Loop also topped the standings. Braybrook leapfrogged Richard Rey into second as he raised his meet total to 15 with the closing day-trio. The latter finished with 14 wins in third.
