Exactly Storms To Keystone Classic Victory
Exactly headed to The Meadows off three straight wins at Woodbine Mohawk Park and powered to a dominant victory in the first of two $34,964 Keystone Classic divisions for three-year-old trotting males on Thursday, Oct. 1.
Unhurried from post two, the son of Bar Hopping-Gracefilly Hanover raced fifth through the quarter in :27.1 before flushing cover nearing a :56.4 half. He stayed second-over until past the three-quarters in 1:24.2, when he slid three-wide, overtook pacesetter Oversear (Charlie Norris), and trotted home in :28.1 to win by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:53. Oversear and Captain Vodka (Ridge Warren) hit the line together for a dead heat for place.
Exactly’s Keystone Classic victory was his seventh win from 10 starts this season. The gelding, owned by Stephen Palermo of Etobicoke, Ont., has now earned $143,907 lifetime and won eight of 17 appearances. Tim Twaddle handles the training responsibilities. The winner returned $3.60.
Fineline Hanover and Dave Palone put up all the fractions en route to a 1:52.3 victory in the second Keystone Classic division. After an opening quarter of :27.1, Palone relaxed the son of Captain Corey-Finesse Hanover to the half in :57. From there, it was all Fineline Hanover, who paced to three-quarters in 1:24.3 and home in :28 to keep pocket-sitter Hamlet Hall (Mike Wilder) 2-1/4 lengths back in second, with Emmett Hanover (Aaron Merriman) holding the show spot.
Carter Pinske trains Fineline Hanover for owners Ron Coyne Stables Inc. of Allentown, N.J., Blair Corbeil of Leduc, Alta., Mike McAllister of Beaumont, Alta. and Larry & Gregg Stable of Forest Hills, N.Y. Fineline Hanover is now six-for-11 this season and eight-for-18 lifetime with earnings of $301,866. He paid $2.40 to win.
Thursday’s top driving honours went to Dave Palone, who recorded three wins on the 14-race card, while Dirk Simpson and Abigail Wright each had two training wins.
The Meadows resumes racing on Friday with a 14-race card featuring three-year-old trotting filly Keystone Classics. First-race post time is 12:45 p.m.
