Unbeaten Maine Filly Snowonthepines Scores 20th Win
The unstoppable Maine filly Snowonthepines added a 20th notch to her belt on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the Cumberland Fair during the Maine Sire Stakes for three-year-old filly pacers.
In her $24,584 stakes event, which was held as a non-wagering race before the regular card, Snowonthepines had only air and opportunity in front of her as her regular driver Kevin Switzer Jr. sent the daughter of Dudes The Man-Snow Cone A on a front-end tour of the facility.
Passing the early stations in :30.2 and 1:02.2 with Ekorus (Joey Mosher) sitting in the pocket, Snowonthepines continued her air of superiority as no horses entered the outer flow to challenge for the lead. After passing the third panel in 1:32, it was clear that the undefeated filly had things her own way and was on her way to another easy score, prevailing by 2-1/2 lengths in a modest 2:02. Ekorus finished second and Perfectly Lovely (Aaron Hall) was third.
Trained by Marc Tardif for owner/breeder Leighton Property of Waterboro, Maine, Snowonthepines scored her 11th seasonal victory and 20th lifetime, increasing her career bankroll past $260,000.
In the second $24,263 sophomore pacing filly division, contested over track conditions downgraded to 'good,' the Tardif-trained Dudelookslikeafily got a perfect two-hole trip from Aaron Hall to best pacesetter Race Me Ireland (Andy Harrington) by a head and late closer Graceofspades (David Ingraham) by a neck. The mile time was not charted. The Dudes the Man-Pan Taylor filly earned her fourth win of the season in 14 starts for owners Leighton Property and Victoria Leighton.
The fillies followed up their male counterparts, who competed prior to the regular betting card on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The first $24,238 division was captured by Wowzah Clousah, who used a pocket trip to best the pacesetting Nuh Uh (Andy Harrington) in 2:03.1 by 1-1/4 lengths. Deuces Red (Steve Wilson) finished half a dozen lengths behind in third. Driven by Aaron Hall for trainer Mike Cushing and Farmington, Maine owners Pamela Smith, Jane DiPompo and Sherry Cushing, the son of Deuce Seelster-Zoe Blue Chip secured his first seasonal victory in his 10th start over the muddy conditions.
In the second $24,238 division for male sophomore pacers on Tuesday, Real Horrorshow used his typical wire-to-wire style scare tactics to put the field to sleep. Driver Kevin Switzer Jr. helped the son of Dudes The Man-Pretty Eyes make every call a winning one, scoring by three parts of a length in 2:06.3 and improving to eight-for-11 on the season. Dudes The Jet (Joey Mosher) finished in second and Itsjustmoney (Harrington) was third. Real Horrorshow is trained by the Kevin Switzer Sr. and owned by Kdk Standardbreds of Cumberland, Maine, Kathleen Mofield of Bedford, Massachusetts and Anthony Sivik Jr. of Orono, Maine.
