Loto-Quebec Looks To Racing For Profits
Loto-Quebec, whose underperforming 'ludoplex' gaming parlours at racetracks in Quebec City and Trois-Rivieres helped bring down the Quebec horse racing industry three years ago, apparently has decided there’s a few bucks to be made from horse racing after all
.
The provincial lottery corporation has introduced a new horse racing-themed “quick pick” game called Sprinto at its lottery terminals in Quebec. Customers who pay $2 or $5 immediately witness a brief race featuring five numbered horses on the lottery terminal screen, which can produce a prize varying from their money back to as much as $25,000, and also get a ticket with the same five-number sequence for a nightly draw that could earn them as much as $250,000 if all five numbers are drawn.
The odds of receiving a prize are slightly better for the $5 tickets than the $2 ones.
Loto-Quebec’s interest in virtual horse racing is in sharp contrast to the indifference it showed the real sport in recent decades, when it was still a significant player on the provincial gaming scene.

Disgusting irony.

The Quebec government is a joke. The owners of the bars that the vlt's are at get 23% of the money that goes in to them yet they weren't willing to give any money to the horsemen or the track owners who had the vlt's. Then when the tracks closed all the machines went to the bars around Quebec anyway. I swear some governments just don't get it.

I was appalled when I saw a brochure for this game at a lottery terminal in Gatineau. First Loto-Quebec helps kill racing, then brings out a game based on racing. Let's not forget that the Quebec government was misusing the word "subsidy" as well.
