Rankin lowered his own track record for aged gelding trotters at Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center on Tuesday, Sept. 29, stopping the timer in 1:58 to capture the featured $42,254 Open Handicap Trot.

The performance shaved two-fifths of a second off Rankin’s previous record of 1:58.2, which the five-year-old Enterprise-Luvyaformiles gelding established last week when winning the Open.

Rankin and driver David Lake left sharply from post position six, grabbing the early lead and putting up fractions of :28.4, :59.1 and 1:29.1 with Bo Nanza Chip (J.D. Yoder) parked the mile first-up. The pair shed the attacker down the lane and cruised to a three-length victory in 1:58. Shine All The Way (Don Harmon) closed for second over Bo Nanza Chip.

Rankin is owned, trained and was bred by Judy Roegner, who leads all trainers in wins at the current meet. The victory was the 32nd of Rankin’s career in 79 starts and pushed his lifetime earnings to $179,092. He paid $8.60 to win.

Joe Casagranda sent out two winning trainees to lead the conditioners on the eight race card, while he and Lake each recorded a pair of driving wins.

Live racing returns to the Hastings, Mich. oval for the final time this year on Wednesday, Sept. 30, with a 1 p.m. first-race post time.
