Undefeated Earl Watts trainee Windemere Skye blazed to a 1:53.2 track record performance for three-year-old pacing fillies at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway, winning her 23rd race in as many career starts and capping off a six-win day for driver Marc Campbell on the Sunday, Sept. 27 all-stakes card.

Windemere Skye led throughout the $27,200 Lady Slipper Stakes Gold division in race 17, setting fractions of :28.1, :57.3 and 1:26.1 en route to the 3-3/4-length victory in 1:53.2. The Somewhere Fancy-Howmac Missy filly smashed the former divisional track record of 1:54.4 that was co-held by three fillies, JJ Scarlett, Rosetown Mary and Starship Laska. She was just one-fifth of a second off her lifetime mark taken in a Lady Slipper Gold division at Charlottetown Driving Park on Aug. 21. 

A back-to-back heat winner in The Maritimer in New Brunswick nine days ago, Windemere Skye was the overwhelming 1-9 favourite and paid $2.10 to win. Fitness First (Corey MacPherson) sat in the two-hole and finished second, with Serenity Now (Jason Hughes) a distant third.

The lion's share of the purse pushed the perfect filly's lifetime earnings to $219,393 for owners Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. and Matt Burke of Stratford, P.E.I.

Campbell won five races in a row to close out the card and six overall on the day. The Orwell, P.E.I. reinsman also won the other Lady Slipper Stakes Gold division for three-year-old pacing fillies when Maritimer runner-up Bayonetta ($9.30) edged Ea Money Maker (Ken Murphy) by half a length in 1:55.2. The Cattlewash-White Satin filly is trained by his son Landon and owned by 9267 7327 Quebec Inc. of Mont Joli, Que.

Campbell guided Shanghai Whiskey ($4.30) past popular pacesetter Cattle Call (Gilles Barrieau) to take one of the two $26,200 Joe O’Brien Memorial Gold divisions for three-year-old male pacers, stopping the clock in 1:56 for trainer/owner Wade Myers of Charlottetown, P.E.I. The Shanghai-Julep Hanover gelding has now won three O'Brien Gold divisions during his nine-for-14 sophomore season.

Campbell also drove Louie The Lip ($5.30) to a 1:57.1 victory in a $13,100 Joe O’Brien Memorial Grassroots division for trainer Tom Weatherbie and took two $13,600 Lady Slipper Grassroots divisions with Windemere Dinozzi ($3.50) in 1:57.3 for trainer/owner Saul Lanigan and Rose Knows Money ($2.50) in a nine-length 1:56.1 career-best romp for trainer George Rennison.

The other Joe O’Brien Memorial Gold division went to Zero Two Sixty ($2.40) as driver Ken Murphy sent the Tobago Cays-J J Mistress gelding to the front and won by 2-1/4 lengths in a career-best 1:55 for trainer Sifroi Melanson and owner Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, N.B. 

The remaining Lady Slipper Grassroots divisions went to Mrs Gallant ($9.20) in 1:58.3 for driver Ryan Desroche and trainer Joe Baxter, and Fern Hill Kream ($2.70) in 1:58.2 for Brodie MacPhee and Tom Weatherbie. Starship Sharky ($5.40) won a Joe O’Brien Memorial Grassroots split in 1:57.1 for Adam Merner and trainer Earl Watts, while trainer/driver Darren Crowe sent Blazing Cays ($2.10) to a five-length win in 1:56.1 in another division.

The trotters shared the spotlight on the stakes-laden program with the streaking Little Louis ($2.10) capturing the $22,100 Lady Slipper division for three-year-old colts and geldings in 1:59.2 in rein to Corey MacPherson for trainer Kuri White and the East Coast Captains of Cornwall, P.E.I. The win was the ninth in a row for the homebred E L Rocket-Go With Her gelding. MacPherson returned to win the $22,100 three-year-old filly division with Bonmati ($3) in 2:01 for trainer/owner Blayne White.

Rockin Through It ($5.10) won a $12,750 two-year-old trotting filly division by five lengths in 2:03.4 for trainer/driver Mike McGuigan, while the maiden-breaking Early Speed ($8.10) took the other filly split in the same time for driver Myles Heffernan Sr. and trainer Myles Heffernan Jr.

Among the two-year-old trotting colts, Shoe Dog Speed ($4) won in a career-best 2:01 for driver Paul Langille and trainer Tommy Collings. The Muscle Through It-Kristins Victory colt's winning time was a new track record for two-year-old trotting colts and one second and one-fifth off the overall male record held by gelding Bless Me Father. Hopthroughit ($5.30) took the other division by 10 lengths in 2:01.4 for trainer/driver Clare MacDonald.
