Jackie Greene scored a training triple on the Monday, Sept. 21 card at Saratoga Casino Hotel, and the two-time Spa conditioning champion won the featured $25,352 Winners Over/Open Handicap Trot with Spaaaanzano on the matinee program.

Spaaaanzano was piloted by leading driver Kyle Swift when he drew post four for his try in the top trot. Flashing early speed, Spaaaanzano sat the pocket to upset-minded Dealin With Dewey (Aaron Byron), who cut the mile at odds of 21-1. The longshot leader coasted unopposed in a first quarter of :28.3 and half in :58.4 before being challenged by Wolfpack Zach (Jacob Cutting), a 14-time winner in 2026, past three quarters in 1:27.1. Dealin With Dewey faced a two-pronged challenge in the stretch as Wolfpack Zach tried to grind him into submission and Spaaaanzano shook free in final 1/16th of a mile. Spaaaanzano trotted up late to win it in 1:56.1, with Wolfpack Zach nabbing second over Dealin With Dewey. 

Spaaaanzano recorded his third Saratoga Open Trot victory of the year and is eight-for-26 overall, having also taken top-level wins at Plainridge Park and Northfield Park. The five-year-old son of Coraggioso-Grace N Charlie, owned by Kellogg Racing Stables LLC, has won 21 of 70 career outings and banked $1,031,799. He paid $5.48 as the 8-5 second-choice in the wagering.

Greene completed her training hat trick when sophomore trotters Greenarrow Hanover ($11.26) and Notatthetablcarlos ($2.46) scored victories in their respective $16,549 races. Greenarrow Hanover’s win, with Aaron Byron in the bike, came in his local debut, while Notatthetablcarlos repeated for Swift and Greene. The conditioner was three-for-three on the day to move to 57-for-287 on the year.

Live racing resumes on Saturday at Saratoga with a matinee that begins at noon.
