Harness racing at Flamboro Downs

Bajan Firefly produced the fastest clocking of four $10,000 Prospect Series fifth-leg divisions for three-year-old pacers on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Flamboro Downs.

Making his first career appearance in the Prospect Series, Bajan Firefly fired from post five but found three equally eager foes to his inside and dropped back to fourth for :27.1 and :56.1 early fractions. Scott Coulter looked to fish out cover but was forced to take the first-up route as they turned to the backstretch. Bajan Firefly made headway through three-quarters in 1:24.2 and battled past pacesetter Larjon Loni (Austin Sorrie) late for the head victory in 1:54 in the first male division. Chucky Bovino (Ondrej Gois) finished third.

Bajan Firefly nabbed his second win of the season in 17 starts and is now five-for-22 lifetime with $64,575 in earnings. Shawn Steacy trains the All Bets Off-Party Beach colt for breeder Hudson Standardbred Stable Inc. of Hudson, Que., which shares ownership with Landmark 18 Racing Stable of Lansdowne, Ont. The winner returned $2.10

Run To The Hills ($3.30) took the other division for colts in 1:54.1. Jason Ryan piloted the gelded son of Bulldog Hanover-Somemoneysomewhere for trainer Gabriella Sasso.

Amazing Addy ($2.80) used a front-end trip from driver Austin Sorrie to prevail in the first flight for fillies in 1:55.1. John Pentland trains the winning daughter of Shadow Play-Glass Maker.

Angels Amoung Us ($3) raced first-over to a gritty 1:55 score in the other division for distaffs. Ed Hensley had the lines of the Shadow Play-Sing Like An Angel filly for conditioner Jodie Cullen.
