Miki Shan N powered to victory in the $6,900 Preferred Pace on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Driver Jason Hughes settled Miki Shan N into third through opening fractions of :27.1 and :56.4 before launching a first-over attack approaching three-quarters in 1:25.2. The 2025 Governor’s Plate and Gold Cup and Saucer champion took control in the stretch and paced home in :27.1 to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:52.4. Get Wings (Paul Langille) finished second, while early leader Papis Rocket (Ken Murphy) completed the triactor.

Miki Shan N ($2.60), a seven-year-old Always B Miki-Yankee Dream stallion, is trained by Chris MacKay for owners Kap Singh Racing Stable of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Stephen Klunowski of North York, Ont., Earl Hill Jr. of Ohsweken, Ont. and Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The co-all-age track-record holder at Charlottetown is now six-for-22 on the season and 26-for-83 lifetime with $391,771 in earnings.

Bettor Than Spring became harness racing's newest millionaire as he fronted the field in Race 9 and held off Hunters Hero (Landon Campbell) by a half-length. Ryan Desroche lifted Bettor Than Spring to the top out of post two, then consolidated control with a give-and-go around The Tulsa King (Brodie MacPhee) past the :28.3 first quarter. After taking a loose lead past the half in :58.3, Bettor Than Spring hit the gas as Hunters Hero flung forward from fifth down the backstretch, and the top two charged ahead as they battled to three-quarters in 1:27. Hunters Hero endured into the lane, and One Wicked Man (Ken Arsenault) closed to the outside, but Bettor Than Spring held on to prevail in 1:56. Hunters Hero was second over One Wicked Man.

The win, Bettor Than Spring's 69th lifetime, put the veteran pacer over the $1 million mark in career earnings in his 272nd start. The 11-year-old son of Bettors Delight-Spring Break is four-for-24 this year for trainer Tessa MacKinnon and owner Perry Burke of Grosse-Ile, Que. He paid $4.10 to win.

Malignity ($2.90) and trainer-driver Paul Langille captured the $4,950 finale in 1:54. He took command before the half and opened a three-length advantage at the wire for owners Debbie Francis of Sweets Corner, N.S. and Rosanne Langille of Lower Onslow, N.S. Rose Run X Con (Brodie MacPhee) finished second with Impeccable Shadow (Hughes) third.

Shekhan ($11.60) and Desroche won Race 6 in 1:57 for trainer Morgan Sheppard and owner Walter Deagle of Inverness, N.S. Rosiesmightymoe (Murphy) was second by a half-length, with Sporty Anthony (Landon Campbell) third. Desroche recorded three driving victories on the 12-race program.
