Bettor On Than Off Resumes Winning Ways At Truro

Bettor On Than Off winning at Truro Raceway

Racing resumed at Truro Raceway following a six-week hiatus on Friday, Sept. 11 and trainer Danny Romo's Bettor On Than Off picked up right were he left off as the winner of the track's Winners Over Handicap Pace.

Assigned the outside post, Bettor On Than Off won Truro's last three editions of the $2,500 top class in July and made it four in a row as he posted a career-best 1:53.1 victory returning from the layoff with Robert Laffin in the sulky.

In Friday's featured field scratched down to five, Bettor On Than Off took off from the outside post and landed in the pocket as 4-5 favoured Bronx Drifter (Keith Legge) sprinted along the pylons to secure the top spot in a quick :26.3 opening panel. The top two raced on to the half in :55.1 and three-quarters in 1:24.1 with a big gap back to the rest of the field. Turning for home, Bettor On Than Off rallied from the pocket and overtook Bronx Drifter in the stretch to win by three-quarters of length in a :28.4 final frame. Freaky Fanny (Darren Crowe) was a clear third, chasing 3-1/2 lengths behind at the end of the mile.

Bettor On Than Off, Truro's defending Horse of the Year who has won six of his last seven starts, paid $5.10 to win as the 3-2 second choice. The seven-year-old Bettors Delight-Lights Go Out gelding now sports a career record reading 23-30-10 from 77 starts with earnings of more than $43,000.

Live harness racing continues at Truro on Sunday, Sept. 20 with post time at 1 p.m. (ADT).
