Winbak Farm has announced the passing of Hall of Fame broodmare Arls Troublemaker. The daughter of Troublemaker-Kawartha Quality was euthanized on Saturday, Sept. 5 due to age-related issues at the age of 34 years old. 

Bred by Bernard Foti, Arls Troublemaker took a mark of 1:53.2 as a four-year-old, one of her 20 lifetime victories to go with $143,945 before retiring to start a broodmare career. Arls Troublemaker was purchased by Winbak Farm in 1998 and had resided as a broodmare at Winbak Farm of Maryland for most of her life.

Her offspring earned more than $3.2 million and included Art Maker, p,1:49.1 ($1,109,717), Stock Market Wiz, p,1:49.3 ($754,213), Breakin The Law, p,1:49.4 ($524,805), Solo Story, p,1:50 ($383,633), Thumbprint, p,1:53.3f ($205,925), and Own It, p,1:53.2h ($178,615).

“Arls Troublemaker is a major founding broodmare for Winbak Farm,” said Joe Thomson, owner of Winbak Farm. “Two of her daughters and multiple granddaughters are part of the current broodmare band.”

Arls Troublemaker was inducted into the U.S. Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 2016 for producing a millionaire and two earners of $500,000.

Her daughters have had successful broodmare careers. Arls Troublemaker is the second dam of Clear Idea, p,1:50.4f ($659,162), Dubious Claim, p,1:49.1s ($377,235), Kim’s Royal Day, p,3,1:51f ($328,803), Artist Best, p,1:51 ($362,452), Americas Guest, p,1:51.3f ($346,530), and many more winning performers.

“Arls Troublemaker left an immeasurable impact on Winbak Farm,” said Thomson. “She will be missed by the whole Winbak Farm team.”
