Eight Michigan Sire Stakes (MSS) finals featured a combined purse total of $1.02 million and brought together some of the state’s top Standardbreds for an afternoon of championship racing at Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The $124,813 two-year-old colt trot was won by Life Blue Bayou (Muscles for Life-Sister Maggie), who scored his sixth straight win by 10-3/4 lengths while establishing a new track record for a freshman gelding trotter of 1:59.2 over a track rated good. Driven by Brad Kramer, Life Blue Bayou is trained by Maurice Goldschmidt Jr. and was bred and is owned by Jarold Hawks.

Ride or Dye (Bondi Hanover-Kwantum Key) also set a track record in the $137,868 two-year-old colt pace when he stopped the clock in 1:55.3 on a neck victory. Driven, trained and leased by LeWayne Miller, Ride or Dye was bred in Michigan by Libby Myers, who owns the colt.

Naughty Nurse (Musclesprinctonian-Red Dress Baby) took the $120,256 two-year-old filly trot by 1-3/4 lengths in 2:03.3. Braxten Boyd had the lines for trainer Brett Boyd and owners Brett Boyd Racing Inc. and Stony Pointe Racing.

All The Best (Luck Be Withyou-Hickory Big Black) went coast-to-coast in 1:58 to take the $123,146 freshman filly pace by 1-3/4 lengths with Brandon Bates in the bike. Tim Roach trains the filly for Green Rock Stable.

Weezabouttofindout (Muscles for Life-Cynthia Loo), driven by David Lake, dominated the $138,889 three-year-old filly trot by 7-3/4 lengths in 2:00.1 for trainer Kent Hess and owner Ted Boschma.

As Big As You (Big Rigs-As You Are) was 2-1/4 lengths the best in 2:03 in the $140,278 final for sophomore male trotters. Don Harmon was the pilot for trainer-owner Krista Harmon.

Bates drove the Roach-trained Sallysmokingun (Captain Victorious-Girllookatthatbody) to victory by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:57.1 in the $117,778 three-year-old distaff pace for owner Lance Baylis

What Ma Says (Captain Victorious-Pv Miracle Mary) concluded the MSS proceedings with a 1:57.2 win by a quarter-length in the $119,889 sophomore pacing colt contest. David Lake was in the seat for trainer Gerald Malady and owner John Turigliatto.

David Lake led all drivers on the 10-race Champions Day card with three victories, while trainers Kent Hess and Tim Roach each recorded two wins on the program.

Racing at Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center shifts to a Wednesday-Thursday schedule next week, with programs scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16, and Thursday, Sept. 17. First-race post time is 1 p.m. EDT on both days.
