Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center opened its 2026 meet on Tuesday, Sept. 1 and Wednesday, Sept. 2 with Michigan Sire Stakes eliminations as the featured event.

Hot temperatures and a well-maintained track surface helped produce multiple track records over the two-day race week. Three of four MSS eliminations were won in record time on Tuesday.

Supertonic (Stonebridge Tonic-Kwantum Key) and driver Brad Kramer lowered the three-year-old pacing filly record to 1:56.4 in the first $14,722 elim for that group. The Kelly Goodwin-trained filly was second through :29.1 and :58.4 early splits, came out going to three-quarters in 1:28.1, and paced away to win by 4-1/2 lengths from Doon (Kody Massey). Maddog Jesse (John Moody) was third. The winner took her fourth tally in 15 lifetime outings for owners Kelly and Sarah Goodwin. The win price was $6.80.

Allamerican Beach (Wakazashi Beach-Graney) and Kramer lowered the three-year-old pacing gelding mark to an eye-popping 1:55.1. The Jack Mitchell Jr. trainee set the tempo in the first $14,986 sophomore male MSS elimination, rattling off :28, :58 and 1:26.4 fractions before streaking clear by five lengths from Handsome Joe (Kody Massey). Kaa Dee Edward (David Lake) completed the top three. Allamerican Beach has won 10 of his 20 starts lifetime for owners Al Tomlinson and Mitchell. He paid $4.20 to win.

What Ma Says (Captain Victorious-Pv Miracle Mary) and driver David Lake then tied Allamerican Beach’s record in the other elimination for three-year-old male pacers. The gelding was in front through :27.4, :58 and 1:27.3 splits and prevailed by 1-1/4 lengths over Believeincaptain (Kody Massey) with Bit O Honor (Don Harmon) third. What Ma Says won for the seventh time in 19 career outings. Her win price was $3.40.

Lady Victorious (Captain Victorious-Arts Meme) took the other filly pace elimination, racing uncovered out of third to score in 1:59.2 for trainer-driver Lewayne Miller. She returned $4.40.

Plumville Prince (Father Patrick-Lady Athens) and driver Kody Massey established a new aged trotting horse record in 1:58.2 in the $18,056 Open Trot. The eight-year-old Father Patrick-Lady Athens stallion worked to the front through a :28.4 quarter, put up :57.3 and 1:27.1 middle panels and won by 1-1/4 lengths over a hard-charging Rankin (Ty Goodell), followed by Shine All The Way (Don Harmon). Plumville Prince, owned and trained by Ashley Allen, is 18-for-89 lifetime. He returned $13 to win.

Hardts Ace (Manhardt-Blissfulla Sin), driven by Aaron Merriman, lowered the three-year-old pacing colt record to 1:58.2 with a maiden victory for trainer Gerald Malady in an overnight. He was at the helm through :29, :58.4 and 1:27.1 fractions and prevailed by 1-1/2 lengths from Zero To Sixty (John Moody), with Anita Mae (David Lake) well back in third. Hardts Ace took his first win in 18 tries for owner Staci Malady. He paid $5 at the windows.

Gerald Malady also won with Born Wild (1:56, $2.80) in the finale for a triple on the 13-race card. The trainer was three-for-four, adding a place finish by Mijo in the ninth. 

Retta Estelle (Archangel-Ijustwannahavefun) and driver John Moody set a new four-year-old mare trotting record of 2:02.4. The Steve Pelshaw-trained miss was fourth to the quarter in :30.1, followed cover to the half in 1:02, circled three-wide to challenge to three-quarters in 1:32.3 and sprinted away to a 2:02.4 victory by 6-1/4 lengths. Moonlight Cruzng (Matt Currie) closed for place over Chart Surfer (Kim Pluta). The winner is now two-for-11 for owners Linda Pelshaw and Shannon McDunnah.

Multiple records fell in MSS elim action on the Wednesday card, which featured splits for two-year-olds of each gait and sex.

Life Blue Bayou (Muscles For Life-Sister Maggie) and driver Kramer set a new record for two-year-old trotting geldings of 2:02.4 in the first $15,601 division for freshman male trotters. The Maurice Goldschmidt Jr. trainee ran up the score on his rivals, extending his advantage through :31, 1:03.1, and 1:34.1 fractions on the way to a 14-1/2-length winning margin for owner Jarold Hawks. As I Am (Don Harmon) was best of the rest and well clear of Abc Moons Raptor (Rick Dobson) in third. Life Blue Bayou took his fifth straight win, moving to five-for-10 lifetime. He paid $2.40 to win.

Wheelin Cleatus (Luck Be Withyou-Lady In Fashion) and driver/trainer Daryl Bontrager, who co-owns him with Levi Schmucker, set a new record for a two-year-old pacing gelding of 1:57.1 in the first $17,233 rookie male pace elimination. He produced the panels of :29.2, :59.4 and 1:29.4 and prevailed by two lengths over Ride Or Dye (Lewayne Miller), with Kirk (Kody Massey) third. The win was his first from six outings. A $2 win ticket was worth $6.60.

Westwins Eagle (Stars Align A-Pan Vivant) and driver/trainer Lewayne Miller shaved a tick off Wheelin Cleatus's mark with a time of 1:57 in the second elim. He was fourth through :29 and :57.4 panels, third at three-quarters in 1:26.3, and chased down pacesetter Silver Crusader (Daryl Bontrager) by a half-length. Flashing Shadow (Brandon Bates) rounded out the top three. Westiwns Eagle won for the fourth time in six outings for owner Sam Eicher.

Trainer Tim Roach scored a natural hat trick in MSS elims, winning the other two-year-old colt trot division and sweeping the rookie filly pace contests. The trainer also had a second and a third on the 12-race program.

Uncle Deacon (Deacons Valley-Aunt Lottie) romped by 6-1/4 lengths in 2:04.4 with Brandon Bates aboard in the rookie male trot contest. He paid $2.60 to win.

All The Best (Luck Be Withyou-Hickory Big Black) captured the first $15,393 pacing miss event, taking the Brandon Bates steer to a one-length score in 1:59.4. The win price was $2.60.

Fluke Affair (Luck Be Withyou-The Mistress) went clear by 2-1/2 lengths to take the second filly pace in 1:58.2 for driver Braxten Boyd. He paid $4 to win.

Naughty Nurse (Musclesprinctonian-Red Dress Baby) dominated the first $15,032 freshman filly trot contest. Braxten Boyd piloted her to the five-length, 2:03.1 victory for trainer Brett Boyd. Her backers received $3.60 for a base bet.

Westwins Gold (Celebrity Pegasus-Rc Kandie) scooped the second division when placed first. Mite B The Life (Marshall Makin) was dropped to second, promoting the Lewayne Miller-trained and -driven Westwins Gold to the 2:03.3 victory. The win price was $4.40.

Racing at Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center in Hastings, Mich. returns next Tuesday and Wednesday with a first post time of 1 p.m. each day.
