Doc Awesome powered past his rivals to capture the Tuesday, Sept. 1 featured conditioned pace at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The gelding scored as the heavy favourite in the $4,750 feature in Race 14 with David Dowling in the bike for trainer Darla MacEachern, who shares ownership with Allen Gaudet and Mike Cameron of Summerside, P.E.I.

Middleton Terror (Jason Hughes) supplied the opening fractions of :28.1 and :58.3 before Doc Awesome advanced from third to take command past the 1:27.3 three-quarters. The six-year-old son of All Bets Off-Direct Macawesome opened up through the stretch to win by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:55.1. Middleton Terror was second ahead of American Risk (Keith Legge).

Doc Awesome won for the third time this season in 14 starts and moved to 14-for-94 lifetime with $64,900 in earnings. He paid $2.50 to win.

Dowling also captured the 13th-race mares pace with Going Yard ($11.70), rallying from sixth at the head of the stretch to win by a half-length in 1:57.4. George Rennison trains the six-year-old mare for Rennison Racing Inc. of Truro, N.S. and Aiden Ferrish of Summerside. Rollwithitdarling (Paul Langille) finished second with Glenview Rhonda (Legge) third.

Rennison had a training double as Tobins Gem ($2.70) won the $4,450 9th-race pace in 1:56.4 with Legge driving. The sophomore gelding closed out his 2-3/4-length front-end score with a 28-second final quarter for owner Rennison Racing Inc. Brookdale George (Langille) was second ahead of Tiziano (Clare MacDonald).

Howmac Maximus ($3.50) supplied the fastest mile of the evening with a 1:54.3 victory in Race 5 for driver Jeremy Baker and owner-trainer Grace Sorrie of Montague, P.E.I. The seven-year-old gelding carved out the fractions before sprinting home in :28 to win by 2-3/4 lengths. Howmac Exclusive (Corey MacPherson) and House Edge Hanover (Hughes) completed the triactor.

Sure Thing Captain ($4.50) closed the evening with a 1:55.4 victory for driver Jaycob Sweet, giving trainer Ralph Sweet a double. David and John Sweet of O'Leary, P.E.I. and Brett MacDonald of Freelton, Ont. share ownership of the six-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Abbey Road Hanover. Melody Maker (Desroche) was second with Braxtons Boy (Murphy) third.

Ken Murphy opened his driving triple with Covered In Purple ($4.80) in a 1-3/4-length score in 1:57.3 for trainer Darren Crowe, then First Glance ($3.40) gave Murphy his second victory with a three-length decision in 1:59.4 for trainer Chris Davies. Little Leroy ($2.60) completed the Murphy triple in Race 12, getting up by half a length in 1:56 for trainer Joe Baxter.

Desroche started his three-win evening with Anniemosity ($10.10), leading throughout the third-race pace for a 1-3/4-length win in 1:56.2 for trainer Greg MacInnis, then D A Galloway ($2.50) notched a 1:59.4 victory for owner-trainer Ralph Sweet, winning by 4-1/4 lengths. Desroche completed his triple with Mappo Oriley ($3.30) with a 1-3/4-length score in 1:56.4 for trainer Taylor Doyle.
