Little Louis, Stunning Speed Extend Streaks In Lady Slipper
Sophomore standout Little Louis and the undefeated Stunning Speed both scored their sixth consecutive victories in their divisions of the Lady Slipper Stakes on Thursday, Aug. 27 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Little Louis dominated the $22,100 Lady Slipper Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts. Corey MacPherson put the Kuri White trainee on the point, and the E L Rocket-Go With Her gelding set :29.4, 1:00.1 and 1:29.4 fractions before powering away to win by 5-1/2 lengths in 1:58.2. Hoponarocket (Gilles Barrieau) was second best, followed by West River Karuna (Ron MacDonald).
East Coast Captains of Cornwall, P.E.I. owns and bred the winner. The 2025 PEISHOA Trotter of the Year is 16-for-18 in his career with $125,993 in earnings and has won six races in a row after finishing second in his seasonal debut. Little Louis paid $2.10 to win.
Stunning Speed furthered his career unbeaten streak to six in his $12,690 Lady Slipper division for two-year-old trotting colts. Trainer-driver Mike McGuigan sent the Muscle Through It-Stunning Look colt to the front in a :29.1 first panel and rated him to the middle fractions of 1:00 and 1:31, and Stunning Speed held off Maple Leaf Captain (Myles Heffernan Sr.) by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:59.4. Earl Speed (Jason Hughes) completed the triactor.
Stunning Speed is owned by Little Pond Stables of Little Pond, P.E.I. and The Coles Stable of Charlottetown, P.E.I. He has now earned $38,379. The win price was $2.10.
Hallysgurl was sent directly to the lead by Gilles Barrieau in the $22,100 Lady Slipper for three-year-old trotting fillies and never faced a serious challenge. The Darryl MacLean trainee carved out fractions of :29.1, :59.3 and 1:29 before trotting home in :30.2 to win by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:59.2. Bonmati (Corey MacPherson) finished second with Oceanview Banjo (Marc Campbell) third.
Hallysgurl ($2.10) is owned and was bred by Calvin Larkin of Mermaid, P.E.I. and Erika Bradley of Charlottetown. The daughter of Muscle Mass-Incredible Hally is six-for-eight this year and 10-for-15 lifetime with $60,986 in earnings.
The other $12,690 colt division went to Hopthroughit ($2.30) and trainer-driver Clare MacDonald in 2:02. The Muscle Through It colt led at the stations of :31.2, 1:02.2 and 1:32.3 and defeated Shoe Dog Speed (Paul Langille) by 1-1/2 lengths, with Muscles Dreamer (Adam Merner) third. James Campbell of Brookdale, N.S. owns the winner, who is now one-for-six and has banked $22,419.
Saulsbrook Disco ($3.80) delivered a front-end victory in her $12,690 Lady Slipper Stakes division for two-year-old trotting fillies. Marc Campbell guided the Landon Campbell trainee through fractions of :31, 1:01.3 and 1:31.3 before the Muscle Through It-Cleveland Twilight filly drew away by 3-1/2 lengths in 2:01.4. Rockin Through It (McGuigan) and Anyday (MacPherson) followed her under the wire in second and third, respectively. What R The Oddz Stable of Orwell, P.E.I. owns the filly, now five-for-six lifetime with a bankroll of $35,269.
Saulsbrook Eclipse ($21.80) produced the upset of the stakes program in the other freshman filly division. After sitting third through :31, 1:02.1 and 1:33.1 fractions, MacPherson guided the Leonard Myers trainee past Padre Kino Sgt (McGuigan) in the final strides to prevail by a half-length in 2:02.4. Howmac Limerick (Hughes) finished third. Shaun MacIsaac and Norman Clarey of Charlottetown own the winning daughter of Back Of The Neck-Morosita Bi, who collected her first victory from three outings to raise her bankroll to $7,797.
Campbell recorded three victories on the program as he also teamed with trainer Landon Campbell to win with Rina Labelle ($2.10) in 1:59.2 before scoring aboard Joy Of My Life ($3.50) for trainer Jay Noye in 1:56.1.
Trainers Landon Campbell, Ashley Gamester and Luke Burke all doubled up on the 16-race program.
