Lady Slipper Stakes Action Thursday At Red Shores

Hallysgurl will look to continue her dominant sophomore campaign while a pair of undefeated colts also star in Lady Slipper Stakes action Thursday, Aug. 27 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has 16 dashes scheduled for a 6 p.m. (ADT) opening post time with six Lady Slipper Stakes divisions for trotters.

Hallysgurl is the 5-2 morning-line favourite in the $22,100 Lady Slipper Stakes for three-year-old trotting fillies in race 10. Gilles Barrieau will guide the daughter of Muscle Mass from post two for trainer Darryl MacLean and owners Calvin Larkin of Mermaid and Erika Bradley of Charlottetown.

The nine-time winner has five victories from seven starts this season and enters Thursday off a commanding score in P.E.I. Colt Stakes action. Bonmati (To be driven by Corey MacPherson) is the second choice from post six while Miss Gracie Ridge (Brodie MacPhee) has the rail.

Post Time Picks expects another winning performance from Hallysgurl.

“Hallysgurl has won five of her seven starts this year and crushed her rivals in a P.E.I. Colt Stakes last time out. She has drawn inside so expect Barrieau to call the shots from start to finish.”

The $22,100 Lady Slipper Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts lines up in race five with Little Louis favoured from post 2. MacPherson drives the Kuri White trainee for owner East Coast Captains of Cornwall. The E L Rocket gelding has won 15 of his 17 lifetime starts, including five of six outings this season. Hoponarocket (Barrieau) and Howmac Prime Time (Marc Campbell) are the other top selections.

The two-year-old trotting fillies compete in a pair of $12,690 Lady Slipper Stakes divisions.

Padre Kino Sgt is the 5-2 choice in race two for trainer-driver Mike McGuigan and owner Tommy Collings of Mount Stewart. Early Speed (Myles Heffernan) and Howmac Limerick (Jason Hughes) complete the top three selections.

Rail starter Saulsbrook Disco gets top billing in the third race, with Marc Campbell handling the driving duties for trainer Landon Campbell. The freshman daughter of Muscle Through It is owned by What R The Oddz Stable of Orwell and has won four of her five lifetime starts. Anyday (MacPherson) and Rockin Through It (McGuigan) loom as her main rivals.

The two-year-old trotting colts also head postward in a pair of $12,690 Lady Slipper Stakes divisions.

Stunning Speed is the top choice in the sixth race, starting from post three for trainer-driver McGuigan and owner Daniel Ross of Belfast. The Muscle Through It colt is undefeated in all five of his lifetime starts. Maple Leaf Captain (Myles Heffernan) and Earl Speed (Hughes) are the next choices.

Another undefeated colt starts from post three in the ninth race as Massivearmour targets four in a row for driver Barrieau, trainer MacLean and owners Larkin and Bradley. Hopthroughit (Clare MacDonald) leaves from the rail while Shoe Dog Speed (Paul Langille) has post four.
