Laurens Chapter, My Philomene Tally NYSS Victories
Laurens Chapter and My Philomene won the featured New York Sire Stakes races for three-year-old trotting fillies on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at MGM Yonkers Raceway.
In the $110,958 first division, Flying Copper (Ake Svanstedt) led to the quarter in :28.4 and the half in :59.1 before 1-9 favourite Laurens Chapter (Jordan Stratton) wheeled first-over out of third. Laurens Chapter advanced to battle with Flying Copper on the way to the 1:28.2 three-quarters, and their duel continued around the final bend before Laurens Chapter put away her foe in the stretch en route to a two-length triumph in 1:57.3. B Eyelash (Dan Dube) was up for second, followed by Jula Hot To Chill (Matt Kakaley).
Noel Daley trains Laurens Chapter, a daughter of Chapter Seven-A Hopeful Prayer bred by Little E LLC and Andy Miller Stable Inc., for owners Patricia Stables LLC, Allister Stables LLC, Caviart Farms and Sjoblom Racing & M. Dolan. Laurens Chapter has four wins, two seconds and three thirds from 18 career starts and has earned $284,043. She paid $2.34 to win.
My Philomene, driven by Trond Smedshammer, got to the front before the :27.3 quarter in the other $113,014 section, then yielded to Storybook Love (Todd Ratchford) after that marker. Storybook Love continued on the engine in middle-half fractions of :56.4 and 1:26.2 as Who Dares Wins (Svanstedt) made steady progress after she tipped out first-up from third. Late on the final bend, Storybook Love and Who Dares Wins made contact and both went off-stride – as Chant (Tyler Buter) and Sharp Seven (Jason Bartlett) did earlier in the mile – which allowed My Philomene to cruise to a 9-3/4-length victory in 1:55.3. Storybook Love was the runner-up, and Who Dares Wins checked in third.
My Philomene, a daughter of Chapter Seven-Irish Melody Fr, is trained by Smedshammer for owner Melady Enterprises LLC. My Philomene has a summary of 3-0-0 from nine efforts and has put away $113,265. She returned $19.16 to win as the second-longest price on the board at 8-1.
One $27,397 New York Excelsior Series event for sophomore filly trotters was also held as a non-betting event before the main card. That dash was won by the Chapter Seven-Steamy Windows filly Myths And Legends from second-over in 1:57.3 for driver Matt Kakaley, trainer Marcus Melander and owner S R F Stable.
In addition to the sire stakes action, Tuesday night's Pick 5 sequence went unsolved, leading to an $8,084.33 carryover and a $35,000 guaranteed pool in the wager on Thursday.
