Avas Angel Baby captured the $13,800 Track On 2 Claiming Series final for fillies and mares to go three-for-three in the series and tally her fifth straight victory on Sunday, Aug. 23 at The Track On 2.

She went third past a :28 quarter and until flushed out by Westcoast Captive (Kelly Hoerdt) down the backside. Avas Angel Baby was in front in a flash to put up a :57.4 half-mile clocking and came under a drive from Drew Campbell rounding the final turn to gain separation at three-quarters in 1:26.4. No rival presented a serious threat down the lane as Avas Angel Baby finished out a 1:54.4 victory with a 1-3/4-length margin. Frostfire (Mike Hennessy) came off stale cover on the turn and surged for second. Dali Dancer (David Kelly) finished.

Avas Angel Baby missed the first leg of the series but won the next two plus the final and is now five-for-five at the Track On 2 meet. The Rebecca Kanak trainee, owned by Trevor Williams of Winnipeg, Man., Aurel Vodon of Virden, Man. and Morning Line Inc. of Airdrie, Alta. is five-for-16 this season. The six-year-old daughter of Sunshine Beach-Absolute Heaven recorded her 11th career victory in 77 starts while raising her earnings to $101,739. She paid $2.50 to win.

Airline Pilot ($11.70) went gate-to-wire to take the $14,400 Track On 2 Claiming Series final for horses and geldings. Brandon Campbell commanded early speed from the six-hole to place the stallion on the point in a :27.3 first split and rated the middle panels of :57.1 and 1:27.4. The favourable fractions left Airline Pilot with a :26.4 kicker, which had him home a 1-1/2-length winner in 1:54.3. Mighty Duke (Preston Shaw) finished second from a pocket trip, followed by Jus Ched (David Kelly).

The Chris Currie-trained Airline Pilot notched his fifth win of the season in 20 starts. The six-year-old Hes Watching-Midnight Jet stallion, owned by Kayla Baxter of Willingdon, Alta., is 23-for-120 lifetime with $104,678 in earnings. He returned $11.70 at the windows.
