Exactly Correct, Just Givener Swift In Grassroots
Exactly Correct and Just Givener both posted 1:49.4 miles in victory in their $30,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Leg 4A divisions for three-year-old pacing males on Thursday, Aug. 20 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Exactly Correct swept to the front down the backstretch and secured an open-length victory. Fourth to the quarter in :27.2 for Mark MacDonald, the gelding followed Tilthecowscomehome (Trevor Henry) to the outside and tipped three-wide around him while sprinting to the front. Exactly Correct reached the half in :54.3 and three-quarters in 1:22.4 and held Tilthecowscomehome at bay in the stretch to win by 2-1/4 lengths. Hall Of Fear (Daryl Thiessen) finished third.
Camilla Christoforou trains the winning son of Bettors Delight-In Other Words for Irvann Holdings Inc. of Toronto, Ont. and Charalambos Christoforou of Campbellville, Ont. Exactly Correct is now five-for-10 this year and six-for-14 lifetime with $84,950 in career earnings. He returned $10 to win.
Just Givener rallied from a mid-race shuffle to a 26-1 upset in the second split. The gelding led through a :26.3 quarter for Travis Henry, then gave up control to Ryder Ross (Doug McNair), who was in turn pocketed by Johnny Angel (Trevor Henry) going to a :54.2 half. Just Givener followed third through the 1:22.1 three-quarters, then gunned down Johnny Angel with a :27 final quarter to win by 2-1/2 lengths. Johnny Angel was second, followed by Scorpion Seelster (Mark MacDonald).
Just Givener took a new career mark in his third win in 13 starts this year for trainer Murray Brethour, who shares ownership with Daniel Sarafian of Unionville, Que. and Tony Basile of Toronto, Ont. The son of Mcwicked-Bettor Move Over is three-for-21 lifetime with a bankroll of $58,795. His win price was $54.80.
Wholetthedogsout ($3.60) took the final split with Mark MacDonald in the bike for trainer John Pentland. The Bulldog Hanover-Family First colt set a lifetime mark of 1:50.2 in the 3-1/2-length win.
Allstar Twinkle ($4.50) won the $25,000 Pop-Up Series final in 1:52.2. Trevor Henry piloted the four-year-old Sportswriter-Itsa Surprise Tome mare to the half-length score for trainer Jamie Copley. Jazzville ($4.60) was a 1:54.4 winner in the $20,000 Pop-Up Series Consolation. The series was for $8,000 claiming filly-and-mare pacers.
