Top Maine Glamour Boys Dominate Sire Stakes

Daytoremember at Skowhegan Fair

The Maine Sire Stakes glamour boys division rolled into the Skowhegan State Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 18 with the three-year-old pacing male standouts Daytoremember and Real Horrorshow easily winning again.

In the first $23,901 Maine Sire Stakes race, which was held before the regular wagering card, driver Kevin Switzer Jr. sent Real Horrorshow right to the front, where the son of Dudes The Man-Pretty Eyes likes to be.

Real Horrorshow set early fractions of :29.3 and 1:00.3 while Rebels Revenge (Aaron Hall) sat at tight pocket before Joey Mosher urged Dudes The Jet first-over as they passed the third panel in 1:29.4. With the outer flow stalling, Andrew Harrington pushed Itsjustmoney into third position at the head of the stretch as Rebels Revenge tried to reel in the leading Real Horrorshow. With an assertive :28.2 final quarter, the pacesetter went on to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:58.1. Rebels Revenge finished second and Itsjustmoney was third.

After going undefeated in nine freshman starts, Real Horrorshow has won five of his seven sophomore races with a pair of runner-up finishes to push his bankroll over the $200,000 mark. He is trained by the senior Kevin Switzer, who also co-owns as part of Kdk Standardbreds, and shares ownership with Kathleen Mofield of Bedford, Massachusetts and Anthony Sivik Jr. of Orono, Maine.

In the second $23,901 division for sophomore male pacers, another non-wagering event, the terms were dictated by Daytoremember, who also decisively won his last start at Topsham as part of a current five-race win streak in Sire Stakes action.

Driver Heath Campbell sent Daytoremember out for an early lead from post four, setting fractions of :30.2 and 1:00.4 over the first circuit. Deuces Red (Mike Stevenson) stuck to the pacesetter like glue as the pair hit the third station in 1:29.3, while Nuh Uh (Andy Harrington) raced first-over gaining ground down the backstretch for the final time. Once again, the outer flow had failed to advance around the final turn as Campbell had Daytoremember in overdrive. He sped home in a :28 final quarter, stopping the timer in 1:57.3. Deuces Red finished second and Silence Ofdarkness (Aaron Hall) got up for third.

A homebred for trainer Valerie Grondin, Daytoremember is now six-for-seven on the season. The son of Dudes The Man-Paxxie has won eight of his 18 career starts with earnings over $140,000.

Daytoremember continues to lead Real Horrorshow by 25 points in the divisional standings.
