Lady Cafe Au Lait Extends Streak To Twelve In Sapphire

Lady Cafe Au Lait continued her sensational season Monday (Aug. 17) evening with another commanding victory in the Sapphire Open Mares, presented by the Fox Group, at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Marc Campbell sent Lady Cafe Au Lait to the lead in the third $30,000 Sapphire division and never looked back, controlling fractions of 27.2, 56.4 and 1:25.2 before sprinting home in 27.3 to win by four lengths in 1:53. Badgirl Bridgette (Driven by Ken Murphy) finished second with Sugar Bowl (Brady Sweet) third.

Lady Cafe Au Lait ($2.10) is trained by Earl Watts. The four-year-old Big Jim-Lady Latte mare is owned by Windemere Farms of Springvale P.E.I., and Matt and David Burke of Stratford, P.E.I.

CC Rockin Rosie ($12.50) captured the first $30,000 Sapphire Open Mares division in race seven for trainer-driver Adam Merner. The four-year-old daughter of Rockin Image-Sir Lehigh Z Tam came three-wide at three-quarters before taking command and winning by three lengths in 1:54.2. Lady Devine (David Dowling) finished second with Saulsbrook Pika (Gilles Barrieau) third. 

Steven MacDonald of Stanhope, P.E.I. and Tommy Collings of Mount Stewart, P.E.I. share ownership of the winner.

Freaky Fanny ($20.20) delivered another upset in the second Sapphire division for trainer-driver Darren Crowe. The Artspeak mare rallied from fifth to catch the front stepping Trumps Girl (Brady Sweet) in the final strides, winning by one length in 1:54.3. Oh Ophelia (Barrieau) completed the triactor. Josh MacDonald of Little Pond, P.E.I owns the five-year-old winner.

Trainer-driver Paul Langille tripled with Nolans Magic Shui ($2.60) in 1:57.3 and Disko Bay ($4.70) in 1:54.4. Langille returned to the winner’s circle in the finale with Impeccable Shadow ($7.30), who held off Starship Glyde (Corey MacPherson) to win in 1:54.2 and complete the triple.

Marc Campbell led all drivers with five victories on the program, scoring with Chikaboom ($5.10), Starship Laska ($4.60), Woodmere Kennedie ($3.20), and Twin B John B ($3.40) in addition to Lady Cafe Au Lait.

Live racing continues Tuesday evening at Red Shores Charlottetown with a 6 p.m. opening post. The program will include the post position draw for the $100,000 Gold Cup and Saucer Final.
