Red Mile Cancels After Six, Reschedules Races To Monday
Due to lightning and storms around the Lexington, Ky. area, The Red Mile suspended the Sunday, Aug. 16 card after six races and rescheduled the evening’s remaining races.
The Red Mile will host a double-header card on Monday with the regularly scheduled 16-race card beginning at 1 p.m. (EDT), followed by a special nine-race makeup program of Sunday’s races starting at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Before the inclement weather arrived, a trio of Kentucky-bred races hit the track. Baby Puppy (Atlee Bender) soared from a stalking trip to win a $41,667 Kentucky Commonwealth Series division for two-year-old pacing fillies by 4-1/4 lengths in a 1:51.2 mile over Sweet Deb (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) and Lindy Believer (Yannick Gingras). Erv Miller trains the winning daughter of Bulldog Hanover-American Cheer, who paid $5.40 to win.
Odds-on favourites landed in the pair of $20,833 Kentucky Golden Rod divisions for rookie female pacers that were contested. Era Dominance (Marvin Luna) ripped to a front-stepping romp by 5-3/4 lengths in a 1:51.1 effort, paying $3.80 to win. Jk Alwaysbpositive (Tim Tetrick) later vaulted off a second-over trip for a three-quarter-length victory over pacesetter Odds On Momma (Dexter Dunn) in a 1:52.3 mile. She paid $3.16 to win.
Monday’s 16-race afternoon card of racing is headlined by the $80,000 USD second preliminary of the Kentucky Championship Series for two-year-old trotting fillies, while the $80,000 USD Kentucky Championship Series second round for two-year-old pacing fillies highlights the nine-race makeup card Monday evening.
