Pair Of Preferreds At Georgian
Muscle Power won as he pleased while Astreos Flash upset the apple cart in their respective Preferred assignments at Georgian Downs on Tuesday evening.
The $13,000 Preferred Trot was over in a hurry for Muscle Power, who went to the front and didn't look back en route to a 1:57 score for driver Steve Byron.
The Ted MacDonnell-trained eight-year-old son of Muscles Yankee chopped out panels of :28, :56.1 and 1:27 before coasting home in :30 seconds for the 1:57 clocking. It was more than six lengths back to runner-up Royal Academy. Kan Wire was third.
The even-money favourite, who races for the partnership of Northhorn Stable, Noblock Racing Stable, Brian Boyce and David Reid, won for the fifth time this season and for the 22nd time in his career. He has banked $387,665 to date.
Astreos Flash rallied from just off the pace to take home top prize in the $13,000 Preferred Pace for trainer/driver Larry Small and owner/breeder John Christensen of Scarborough, ON.
The four-year-old son of Astreos, who has a history of pulling off upsets, clicked at odds of 23-1 in tonight's assignment. Earlier this summer he found his way to victory lane at odds of 14-1 in the $88,600 Slots Cup final at Hiawatha Horse Park.
Astreos Flash drew off to win by a length and a half in tonight's assignment over runner-up Classic Lightning. Actionuke rounded out the top three in the nine-horse affair.
After going 1-for-8 in his three-year-old campaign, Astreos Flash has manufactured a 6-5-3 record from 32 starts this season. He now boasts $98,660 in lifetime earnings.
