Fight Song, Flemsteen and Buckhead Ridge are set for their latest clash in the $5,500 Open Trot on Thursday, Aug. 13 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has a 13-dash presentation starting at 6 p.m., with the featured trot lining up as the ninth race. Fight Song, Flemsteen and Buckhead Ridge have faced each other in nine straight races, making up the triactor six times. After Buckhead Ridge won the previous confrontation, he and Flemsteen have three wins each, while Fight Song trails the head-to-head-to-head score with two. The latter is the 5-2 morning-line favourite to make things all square in Thursday's dash.

Fight Song will start from post four with Jason Hughes driving for trainer Ashley Gamester and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The seven-year-old Kadabra-Fortunes Of Fables gelding was second to Buckhead Ridge in his latest appearance on Aug. 6 after winning his previous start in 1:55.3. Fight Song has two wins, four seconds and three thirds from 10 seasonal outings.

Flemsteen (3-1) has post three for driver David Dowling and trainer Jennifer Doyle. The eight-year-old son of Explosive Matter-Lost Symbol set the all-age trotting record at Charlottetown in his first start on P.E.I. and is now 6-2-4 from 19 starts this year. He races for Max Webster Stable of Inverness, N.S., Jeffrey Skinner of Hammonds Plains, N.S., Derrill Murphy of Lethbridge, Alta. and Clair Murphy of Millvale, P.E.I.

Buckhead Ridge (7-2) leaves from post two with Marc Campbell in the seat for trainer Landon Campbell and owner Brady Doyle of Stratford, P.E.I. The six-year-old son of Nuncio-Tuonela has been a model of consistency in 2026 with five wins, three seconds and two thirds from 10 starts. The talented trotter enters off a 1:56.1 victory in the $8,000 Island Oceans Trot Series on Aug. 6. Buckhead Ridge has also won the Andrew Perry Memorial Trot this season at Summerside Raceway and captured the July 2 Open Trot in Charlottetown.

West River Jet (4-1) leaves from post five for trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault while Camco Laraido (6-1) has the rail with Ken Murphy driving for trainer Mario Macri. Camco Laraido steps into the Open ranks after winning two of his last three starts, including a 1:59.1 score on Aug. 6.

Another horse entering Thursday in sharp form is Fitness First in the 12th-race top pace for $4,750. Corey MacPherson trains and drives the three-year-old daughter of Stay Hungry-Apogee Hanover for owner Jim Gorman of South Melville, P.E.I. Fitness First was a commanding 1:54 winner in her first Charlottetown appearance on Aug. 6 after shipping in from Pennsylvania. She has four victories from 10 starts this season after competing in the United States and Ontario earlier in the year. Her main rivals include Saulsbrook Pika (Gilles Barrieau, 3-1) from post two and More Than A Woman (Keith Legge, 7-2) from post three.

The Post Time Picks likes Fitness First on top.

"Fitness First was sharp in her return to P.E.I., winning by over four lengths and closing in a snappy :28.3. She’s moving up the class ladder for this attempt, but coming off that performance, we won’t be shocked if she doubles up.”
