Primo Uomo and driver Dylan Huckabone-Miller won the $11,806 Open Handicap Pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday, Aug. 8.

Primo Uomo tracked pacesetter Humble A (Chris Long) through fractions of :26.1, :54.1 and 1:22.1 before popping the pocket and going on to win in a lifetime-best 1:50 flat by 1-1/2 lengths over late closers Bluesville (Ron Harp), the even-money favourite, and Fasnacht Hanover (Rene Goulet). 

Primo Uomo, the 6-1 third choice, returned $14.82 while winning for the sixth time in 25 starts this season.

Primo Uomo is a six-year-old gelding by Heston Blue Chip out of Primadonna. The career winner of 37 races and nearly $430,000 is trained by David Dewhurst for New York owners Chris and Dale Lawton. 

Live harness racing returns to Vernon Downs on Thursday, Aug. 13, with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
