The countdown is on for the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer, presented by Atlantic Lottery, with nominations closing Monday afternoon, Aug. 10 for the signature event of Old Home Week racing at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Entries for the Gold Cup and Saucer trials close on Monday, Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. (ADT), as talent from across North America is invited to converge on Prince Edward Island. To enter, call the Red Shores race office at 1-902-629-6636.

The Gold Cup and Saucer trials will be contested Saturday, Aug. 15, with a 5 p.m. (ADT) first race post time for that program. Each trial will carry a $15,000 purse as horses attempt to earn their way into the legendary $100,000 Gold Cup and Saucer final on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The James MacGregor Gold Cup Consolation, presented by The Guardian, will race for a $30,000 purse on Friday, Aug. 21. If required, a second consolation will also be added for a $15,000 purse.

Participating Gold Cup trial horses will also receive an owner’s welcome package, including a $100 gas card courtesy of the Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industry Association and Red Shores. Horses racing in the Gold Cup and Saucer trials will also earn three points in the P.E.I. Invitational Series, with the $50,000 Premier’s Cup Championship final on Oct. 10.

Connections of Gold Cup finalists will receive an invitation to the Gold Cup and Saucer reception on Friday, Aug. 21, as well as dinner for four in the Top of the Park on Gold Cup Night. Finalists will also receive a gift courtesy of Atlantic Lottery and Prince Edward Island Standardbred Horse Owners Association, while horses finishing sixth through ninth in the final will receive a $1,000 participation bonus.

The Gold Cup and Saucer final, presented by Atlantic Lottery, headlines the biggest night of the summer at Red Shores on Saturday, Aug. 22 as Charlottetown Driving Park hosts the $100,000 championship event. The Gold Cup and Saucer is the centerpiece of Old Home Week racing, which runs from Aug. 14-22 at Red Shores Charlottetown.
