Hugh Heff Huge At Northside
The wins aren't as plentiful as past years, but Hugh Heff still remains a stiff threat in the top classes at Northside Downs.
The six-year-old son of Betterthancheddar-Danika Patrix picked up his third win of the season on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Northside, prevailing in the $1,600 Winners Over feature.
Leaving from post two, Hugh Heff and driver Randy Getto settled behind pacesetter Thunder Alley (Mark Pezzarello) through fractions of :28.3 and :57.4, then tipped from the pylons to challenge around the five-eighths mark. Poking a neck in front at the 1:26.4 third station, Hugh Heff continued to widen his advantage around the far bend and pulled away for a two-length tally in 1:56. Thunder Alley stayed for second with Revenant (Shawk Lynk) in for third.
Trained by Dana Getto, Hugh Heff is owned by his driver, Susan MacSween of River Ryan and Wayne Hardy of Sydney, N.S. He's a 51-time winner in his career with $127,246 in earnings.
