A field of the top aged pacers in Atlantic Canada will clash in the Saturday, Aug. 8 top class in the lead up to the Trials for the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer looming next week at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has a 15-dash presentation starting at 5 p.m. (ADT), with the $6,250 Preferred Pace lining up in race 14.

Cecil Ladner Memorial winner Ammo has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favourite from post six with Marc Campbell driving for trainer Ron Matheson and P.E.I. owners Pat Morris of Charlottetown and Woodmere Farms of Marshfield. The six-year-old son of Sweet Lou-Beach Gal has been a major player in the region’s top classes this season and will get another serious test on Saturday as Old Home Week 2026 approaches.

Governor’s Plate winner Get Wings will leave from post four with Paul Langille in the driver's seat for trainer Vaughan Doyle and owners Gary Ford of Stratford, P.E.I., and Janet Kinney of Wheatley River, P.E.I. The four-year-old son of Bettors Wish-The Captains Angel captured the $50,000 Governor’s Plate final last month at Red Shores Summerside and is the 3-1 second choice.

Defending Gold Cup and Saucer champion Miki Shan N has post five with Corey MacPherson driving for trainer Chris Mackay. The veteran New Zealand-bred pacer returns to the Charlottetown oval where he captured the 2025 Gold Cup and Saucer final and will look to sharpen up to defend his title after not seeing pari-mutuel action since his third-place finish in the Governor’s Plate final on July 18.

Rocks Shining Star has rail control with Brady Sweet driving for trainer Jeff Holmes while Fast Louie will leave from post two with David Dowling aboard for trainer Jennifer Doyle. Trumpster Blues has post three for driver Adam Merner and trainer David O’Brien after winning his last two races.

The "Post Time Picks" go with Ammo to win it: “Ammo fired to the front last time and led for a long way only to be nipped in the final strides. He may not get that trip this week, but if Campbell has him close at the top of the lane, they could reach up and get the glory.”

The $8,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series, presented by Red Shores, has a Gold division featured earlier in race 11 with Merigo Magic the favourite as he leaves from post five with trainer/driver Adam Merner. Local owners Mike May, Herman McQuaid and Derrick Cameron are partners on the Tobago Cays-Meridian Magic five-year-old. He will take on six rivals in the stacked field that includes Phil My Beer (Marc Camobell), One Wicked Man (Kenny Arsenault), Malevolent (Paul Langille), Brookdale Johnny (Ken Murphy), The Tulsa King (Corey MacPherson) and Impeccable Shadow (Jason Hughes).
