Trainer Anthony Beaton sent a parade of promising two-year-olds to the Woodbine Mohawk Park winner's circle during the 10-race card on Thursday, Aug. 6.

On a card with eight races dedicated to two-year-old pacers, Beaton babies won three with the filly Twin B Copacabana the fastest freshman of the night in 1:51.1 as she looped to the lead early on in the opener then held off the late-surging Heavens Touch and Louis-Philippe Roy by a head in rein to Mark MacDonald. After finishing no worse than fourth in her first three starts, including a pair of Ontario Sires Stakes Gold events, Twin B Copacabana secured her first career win. The Cattlewash-Lovely Erin filly, who went through the London Classic Yearling Sales ring for $90,000, is owned by Copacabana Stable of Waterdown, Ont.

Beaton later sent out back-to-back first-time winning rookies in the seventh and eighth races, including the half-brother to his former O'Brien Award-winning stable star Nijisnky. Captain Cavalier, a Captaintreacherous colt out of the Grand Circuit stakes winner Pirouette Hanover, had James MacDonald in the bike for his second start and advanced from an early four-hole to best a re-rallying HP Follow Me and Jody Jamieson by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.2. A $333,333 big ticket yearling purchase from the Lexington Selected Sale, the colt is owned by John Fielding of Scarborough, Ont., Mac Nichol of Burlington, Ont., Dumain Haven Farm of Pine Bush, New York, and E Five Racing of Boca Raton, Florida.

Following a pair of runner-up finishes in OSS Gold action, the tides turned for filly Waves Of Fortune as she scored in 1:52.3 by 1-1/4 lengths in rein to James MacDonald after closing off the final-turn cover of Effective Control and Trevor Henry in a :26.1 final frame. The daughter of Bettors Delight out of Cozy Beach was a $23,944 yearling purchase from the Standardbred Horse Sale for Beaton and his partners, Lisa Lefort of Waterdown, Ont., David Mercer of Westmount, N.S., and Teresa Davidson of Milton, Ont.

Beaton is on the verge of his sixth million-dollar season, sitting just a few hundred dollars shy of the mark in 2026. The Waterdown, Ont. horseman has won a total of 495 races lifetime with stable earnings of $14.9 million.

The non-freshman races on Thursday's card were a pair of $12,000 Pop-Up Series divisions for $8,000 claiming distaff pacers. Those races were won by trainer Jodie Cullen's three-year-old homebred filly Half Fast in 1:52 with son Travis driving and the one-time Blaine McKenna starter Missy Rocks, who was claimed off the career-best 1:51.4 score engineered by Louis-Philippe Roy.
