Crack Shot took aim at Prince Hal Hanover in the lane and chased that rival down to capture the $44,000 Open Pace on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, while the latter reached the $2 million milestone with a show finish.

Crack Shot fired from post six for Doug McNair, drawing alongside Christopher Dance N (Tyler Borth) in the early sprint before pushing past him for the front nearing the :26.1 quarter. Mark MacDonald kept Prince Hal Hanover out from post two and drove the stallion, coming off a place finish in the #SendItIn Invitational, to the point on the way to a :54 half. Prince Hal Hanover marched to three-quarters in 1:21.4 and readied for the stretch showdown as Crack Shot peeled off the pylons and longshot Christopher Dance N angled for the inside. Crack Shot veered to the outer rail but accelerated all the while and finished in :26.1 to beat Prince Hal Hanover and Christopher Dance N in 1:48.2. Those two clashed on the inside down the stretch, with Christopher Dance N up for second, three-quarters of a length back of the winner.

Crack Shot, a three-time Ontario Sires Stakes champion by virtue of two Super Final wins and one Grassroots Final victory, scored at the Open level for the first time in his career. The four-year-old son of Bettors Delight-Beautyonthebeach took his third win of the season in eight outings and is now 14-for-32 lifetime with $838,403 in earnings. Gregg McNair trains the stallion and partners in ownership with Dale Hunter of London, Ont., Frank Brundle of East Garafraxa, Ont. and George Kerr of Gowanstown, Ont. Crack Shot paid $5 to win.

Prince Hal Hanover’s third-place cheque pushed him to double-millionaire status, landing his career bankroll on $2,004,854. The four-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Percy Bluechip has a stellar career resume through 41 starts, with victories in the 2025 Adios Pace, 2025 Milstein Memorial and 2026 Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup among his 14 wins. Dr. Ian Moore trains the stallion for Prince Hal Hanover Stable of Cambridge, Ont.
