Inaugural Mohegan Cup Brings Top Mares To Pocono

Louies Girl N

The last of the scheduled 5 p.m. twilight cards on Sunday at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania is scheduled this weekend on July 26, with a new Pocono feature highlighting the action – the inaugural $75,000 USD Mohegan Cup for free-for-all pacing mares.

The leading money-winner for 2026 in the Mohegan Cup field of eight is Louies Girl N, who has earned $438,657 for Peaceful Acre Farm (just two hours down the road from Pocono in Lititz, Pennsylvania) and trainer Per Engblom. The six-year-old daughter of Lord Forbes-One Bad Dream earned more than half her yearly bankroll in the Ursula McIntyre Series at Yonkers Raceway, and the rest since then, winning the Betsy Ross at Harrah's Philadelphia and the Roses Are Red Stakes elimination at Woodbine Mohawk Park (third in the final), with consistent close finishes against the best of her division. Jason Bartlett is set to drive Louies Girl N at Pocono, starting from post three.

The four-year-old Huntsville-Roaring To Go mare Unreasonable, good in Kentucky action at Oak Grove, has been outstanding in her last two starts, both times within a half length of former U.S. Horse of the Year Twin B Joe Fresh in the Dorothy Haughton Memorial Stakes and Clara Barton Distaff Pace in 1:48-and-change miles. Purchased at the start of the year by New Jersey's Punisher 11 Stable, part of which is trainer Andrew Harris, Unreasonable will begin from post five, the most favourable starting spot at Pocono, for driver Todd McCarthy.

The Last Martini, another four-year-old daughter of Huntsville, out of Martinique, is trained by Jared Bako for Glenview Livestock of Wallenstein, Ont., and will be handled by Colin Kelly from post six. The millionaire mare was second in the Breeders Crown championship at two and then dead-heated for the victory at three. A close second in the mid-June Grade 1 Roses Are Red Stakes at Mohawk, she will be looking for her first win of the season.
