Fight Song controlled the tempo and held off his main rivals to capture the $8,000 Island Oceans Trot Series second leg, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stables, on Thursday, July 23 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Jason Hughes sent Fight Song ($6) directly to the lead, and the seven-year-old son of Kadabra-Fortunes Of Fables carved out fractions of :28.4, :58 and 1:27 with Buckhead Ridge (Marc Campbell), winner of last week's Andrew Perry Memorial Trot in a track-record performance at Summerside Raceway, in the pocket. With Flemsteen (David Dowling), the other member of the free-for-all trot rivalry trio, stalled after a first-over advance, the stretch battle came down to Fight Song and Buckhead Ridge, and Fight Song won out with a half-length victory in 1:55.3. The favoured Buckhead Ridge finished second, while Flemsteen completed the triactor.

Ashley Gamester trains Fight Song, who is now two-for-nine this year, for owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The gelding has won 35 of his 140 career starts and earned $264,923.

Brokeandoutofgas ($4.70) captured the 12th-race $4,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace in a lifetime-best-equalling 1:54.4 for trainer Tammy Collings. In line to Marc Campbell, the five-year-old Arthur Blue Chip-Onehotvett mare came first-over out of fifth past a :28 quarter, pushed up through :57.1 and 1:25.4 fractions, and went by pacesetter Tobins Brownie (Adam Merner). Oh Ophelia got up for second, 1-1/2 lengths back of the winner, with Tobins Brownie third. Brokeandoutofgas, owned and bred by Collings of Hazel Brook, P.E.I., is three-for-15 this year and 19-for-76 lifetime with $60,866 in career earnings.

Trainer Hailey Cole scored her first lifetime victory as Princess Halo ($3.70) won in 1:59.1 with Brady Sweet aboard in the third race. The six-year-old Hilarious Halo-Promise Me Hanover mare led at every call and held on by a neck for owners Garth Cole of Kensington, P.E.I. and Alfred Baglole of Freetown, P.E.I. Hailey Cole took her first win in her 13th start. The Kensington resident had her training debut with Egamer in September 2025 and has notched two seconds in addition to the victory.

In the second $6,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series Grassroots division, the Bo Ford-trained Steady Heart ($3.70) left from post eight and came second-over before unleashing a :27.1 final quarter to win in 1:55 by 1-1/2 lengths over Sensational Gal (Barrieau) with Promise Me Later (Paul Langille) third. Ford co-owns the four-year-old mare with Arnold Myers and Luke Beck of Charlottetown, P.E.I. and Scott Bridges of Summerside, P.E.I. Marc Campbell handled the driving.

Freaky Fanny ($4.30) won the other P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series Grassroots division for owner Josh MacDonald of Little Pond, P.E.I. Trainer-driver Darren Crowe guided the five-year-old daughter of Artspeak-Silverhill Bunna to the front, and the mare held off Moon Bound (Dowling) for the 1:55.1 victory by a length. Miss Believing (Ryan Desroche) finished third.

Marc Campbell recorded four victories on the 13-dash program to put him back in control of the driving standings at Red Shores Charlottetown as he aims for his 17th straight title. The Orwell, P.E.I.-based driver opened his account with Bayonetta ($5.40) in a dominant score in 1:55.3 in the sixth race, then won Race 11 with Hatchling ($3) in 1:57, both for trainer Landon Campbell. His other two wins came with Brokeandoutofgas and Steady Heart. Campbell leapfrogged Gilles Barrieau with his Thursday grand slam, taking a one-win lead over that rival, 54-53.

In addition to Fight Song, Gamester also sent out Dee ($2.60) for a 1:56.4 victory in the ninth race with Hughes in the bike, giving the trainer a double.
