Veteran reinsman Jimmy Devaux recorded a milestone victory on Saturday, July 18 at Saratoga Casino Hotel. 

Devaux, who has won numerous driving titles at both Monticello Raceway and Saratoga over the course of his career, made his 8,000th lifetime trip to the winner’s circle.

Sitting behind Ahi Sunshine ($4.96) for trainer Jackie Greene in the one of the evening’s co-featured races, Devaux made a late surge with the talented pacer, who last week posted the fastest mile of the season at Saratoga with a 1:50.4 score in the first round of the Gerrity Invitational races. In the series, top pacers accumulate points towards berths the Joe Gerrity Jr. Memorial Pace to be contested in late August. On Saturday, Ahi Sunshine earned the winner’s share once again. After coming from off the pace and getting his cue from Devaux around the final turn, Ahi Sunshine came on to prevail by three lengths in 1:53.2 to complete his back-to-back jacks in the $25,352 Gerrity legs. Transparency (Justin Huckabone) was second, followed by Boston Rocks (Jacob Cutting). The winning six-year-old Sunshine Beach-Racey Miss stallion is owned by Janie Kellogg.

Devaux, who will be inducted into the Saratoga Harness Hall of Fame later this year, currently sits second in the local drivers' standings behind only Kyle Swift, who is in the midst of his first full season at the Spa. The 59-year-old reinsman has racked up $46,656,965 in 50,405 starts since his career began in 1990. He continues to post strong numbers each year, exceeding 350 wins in four of the past five seasons, and is 128-for-884 in 2026. His 8,000-win milestone added another achievement in a big year for the Devauxs — his sister, thoroughbred trainer Cherie DeVaux, won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes with Golden Tempo.

The evening’s other co-feature, a $25,352 Gerrity division, went the way of Prairie Rocknroll (Billy Dobson, $5.20) who, like Ahi Sunshine, repeated in the Invitational races. Victorious on the front-end last week, the Kyle Spagnola-trained son of A Rocknroll Dance-Stonebridge Luna again prevailed in pacesetting fashion on Saturday, stopping the timer in 1:52.1. Full Metal Jacket (Devaux) closed to be three-quarters of a length back in second, with Pickup Man Hanover (Matt Athearn) third. The five-year-old Prairie Rocknroll is owned by Laurie Poulin. 

The second race on the card was declared a no contest after an accident on the first turn. Thatswhatsup, driven by Wally Hennessey from post four, and Indictable Hanover, leaving from post five for Kyle Swift, raced into the turn side-by-side and hooked wheels. Indictable Hanover turned sideways away from the contact, resulting in both drivers being unseated. A no contest was called with both horses loose on the track, and both were corralled, with one caught by an outrider. The horses were reportedly unharmed, and announcer Mike Sardella called that both drivers got to their feet. The reinsmen reportedly left the track to be evaluated at a local medical centre.
