Canttouchthese Flies Home For Hoosier Open Score
Canttouchthese uncorked a wicked rally from eighth at three-quarters and stormed to victory in the $30,986 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Trot on Saturday, July 18 at Harrah's Hoosier Park.
Leaving from post eight in the field of nine, John De Long took Canttouchthese back to eighth as Naked On A Hill (Jordan Ross) blitzed to the point through a :26 opening quarter. Angel Hill (Trace Tetrick), the 8-5 favourite, was parked and pressing on the first turn before crossing over in front of Naked On A Hill on the backstretch, completing a blistering first half in :53.3. Brooklets Rockette (Kevin Lambright) moved first-up from fourth on the far turn, and Canttouchthese joined the outer flow fourth-over but was still 10-1/2 lengths to three-quarters in 1:21.3.
Angel Hill came under fire at the head of the lane, with Brooklets Rockette applying pressure before Canttouchthese tipped out for the drive. The big daughter of Jk Endofanera-Cant Touch This thundered home widest of all in :25.4, sweeping to a 1-3/4-length victory in 1:49.2. Tarshish (Marcus Miller) rallied between rivals to eke out the second position from the pacesetting Angel Hill.
Canttouchthese, trained by Roger Welch, has won three of seven outings in her four-year-old campaign and matched her career best with the winning time. The homebred for William De Long, Patrick De Long and Douglas Riccolo has won 20 of 36 lifetime starts and has banked $821,671 in her career. She paid $7.60 to win.
