Twin B Joe Fresh Sharp Heading To Clara Barton
Twin B Joe Fresh has been racing at the highest levels of competition in North America since 2022 and has posted gaudy numbers throughout a career that finds her as formidable now as she has ever been. And after winning her third straight Dorothy Haughton Memorial at The Meadowlands in a season’s best clocking of 1:48.4 last week, she will be heading to Plainridge Park to compete in the $150,000 USD G3 Clara Barton Distaff Pace on Sunday, July 19.
From the start of her two-year-old season through the end of last year, Twin B Joe Fresh had the natural ability and good fortune to win 36 races in 49 starts, earn over $3.59 million, and receive four Dan Patch Awards, including Horse of the Year in 2024. But in November of 2025, the year she was named Older Pacing Mare of the Year, she had to deal with a major obstacle. Twin B Joe Fresh had surgery to repair a hairline fracture of her left front cannon bone.
The surgery went well and her prognosis for full recovery was excellent. And as any real champion is prone to do, Twin B Joe Fresh rose to the challenge and succeeded.
After six months off, Twin B Joe Fresh made her return to the racetrack by qualifying twice at The Meadowlands. She finished third in the first one and won the second by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:51.1.
Her first engagement of the year was the Roses Are Red Stake at Woodbine Mohawk Park, where things didn’t go that well, according to her co-owner and trainer, Chris Ryder.
“The first start back, she tied up. Like really bad. And then she had a bit of a problem with her foot through the week and she just didn’t race any good. She always has an issue with her foot and most times we feel we have it right, but sometimes it’s not,” said Ryder.
After a short two week break, she made her next start in an overnight at Harrah’s Philly where things turned around and put her on a big-time roll.
She won Harrah's Open in 1:48.4, then came back to finish second by only a neck to her stablemate Miki And Minnie in the Perfect Sting in 1:48. Then in her most recent outing, she won the earlier mentioned Haughton Memorial in a gutsy stretch drive where she held off Unreasonable and Miki And Minnie to win in 1:48.4.
Those three starts posted notice that Twin B Joe Fresh was back.
“Obviously the last few weeks, those two or three starts she’s back to herself. She’s probably as good as she can be. Her routine is the same this year as in the past, everything is the same. We don’t want to change anything, It’s pretty standard, she just jogs and trains and we look after her. But she’s back,” said Ryder.
This week in the Barton, Twin B Joe Fresh won’t see Miki And Minnie at Plainridge, however she will face Unreasonable, Talk Curdy To Me and Rodeo Drive Deo from last week, who all paced home in 25 and change and finished within four lengths of the winner last week despite their various trips. However, like most weeks, Twin B Joe Fresh looks like the one to beat again on Sunday and to her trainer, she looks like she’s ready for the challenge.
“She’s fine this week. I like it when you get them racing every week and we can be easy on her through the week. I think she gets a bit more comfortable racing that way when you get a couple starts in a row, then you don’t need to do too much work with her at home,” said Ryder.
So far this year, Twin B Joe Fresh has added $181,305 to her purse totals meaning she is only $9,255 from eclipsing the $3 million USD plateau in lifetime earnings, which would add another accomplishment to the career of this generational pacing queen.
The Clara Barton Distaff Pace is programmed as the seventh race on Sunday with an estimated post time of 4 p.m. and the Spirit of Massachusetts trot will follow in race eight with an estimated post time of 4:20 p.m.
Post time for the first race is 2 p.m.
