Windemere Skye Seeks 17th Straight In PEI Colt Stakes Gold

Undefeated pacing filly Windemere Skye will attempt to extend her perfect career record to 17 straight victories in P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold action Friday (July 17) evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The Prince County oval has a 15-dash presentation starting at 6 p.m., featuring a pair of $19,100 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies in races 10 and 13. The evening also features the announcer’s reunion in celebration of 150 years of racing at Summerside presented by Prince County Horsemen’s Club, Red Shores, and Raceway Days. Greg Blanchard, Shannon “Sugar” Doyle, Kevin “Boomer” Gallant, Alan MacDonald, Joey Mills and Rocky Schurman will join Vance Cameron, Lee Drake, and Peter MacPhee on the special edition of the Race Day broadcast.  The live broadcast goes to air at 5:30 p.m.

Windemere Skye has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favourite from post two in race 13 with Marc Campbell driving for trainer Earl Watts. The daughter of Somewhere Fancy is undefeated in 16 lifetime starts and will try to record her 17th consecutive victory Friday evening for owners Matt Burke of Stratford and Windemere Farms of Springvale.

Elm Grove Uncannie is the 3-1 second choice from post four with Ken Murphy handling the driving duties for trainer Joseph Baxter. Saulsbrook Desi is the third choice with Danny Romo enlisting the services of National Driving Championship finalist Keith Legge in the bike from post five.

The first $19,100 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division lines up in race 10 with Serenity Now selected as the 5-2 favourite from post seven. Jason Hughes drives the Kurt Hughes owned daughter of Sportswriter for trainer Ashley Gamester.

Alwaysinfullforce is rated at 3-1 from post three with Gilles Barrieau driving the Northside Downs track record holder for trainer Michael McGuigan. Mysterious Ways (To be driven by Adam Merner) leaves from post five at 7-2 for trainer Stephen Quinn.

The $9,000 Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares Consolation takes to the track in race nine.

Trumps Girl is the 5-2 morning line favourite from post two with Marc Campbell driving for trainer David O’Brien and owner Tommy Collings of Mount Stewart. Other top contenders have Brokeandoutofgas (Landon Campbell) from post three for trainer Tammy Collings while Wednesdays Child (Paul Langille) leaves from post four from the Wayne Watson barn.

The $8,000 Andrew Perry Memorial Open Trot lines up in race eight with Buckhead Ridge (Marc Campbell) the 5-2 favourite from post two for trainer Landon Campbell and owner Brady Doyle of Stratford. Some top rivals include West River Jet (Clare MacDonald) with post five, Fight Song (Hughes) with post six and Flemsteen (Murphy) with post seven. The aged track record of 1:57.3 held by Fight Song will be within reach in the field as well as the all-age track trotting record of 1:57.1 set by Bless Me Father, both in 2025.

The program also has $9,550 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 12.

In overnight action, race five is the Bud Ramsay Memorial and race 6 is the Walter Simmons Memorial pace.
