Enola Rebounds In Tioga Open Trot
Enola shook off a sixth-place finish from two weeks ago as she snagged her fourth victory in her last five starts in the $23,239 Open Trot at Tioga Downs on Saturday, July 11.
Enola (Mike Merton) scrambled out of post five to the inside of Stmikes Kerryblues (Daniel Harvey) and refused to cede control, parking that foe out through early fractions of :27.2 and :56.2. Little relief came as Stmikes Kerryblues backed off passing three-quarters in 1:25.2, as Purple Lord (Jim Pantaleano) took his place with a pocket pop. They went shoulder-to-shoulder into the stretch, and Enola resisted the challenger to triumph by a half-length in 1:55.4. Special Mission (Dan Daley) closed for third.
Enola is now a three-time winner of the Tioga Open this season, all in her last four starts for trainer Rob Harmon. The six-year-old daughter of Resolve-Deweys Katie, who is six-for-21 this year, is owned by Go For Glory Stable LLC. She tallied her 22nd career win in 110 starts. The win price was $6.44.
Braxten Boyd and Merton had driving grand slams on the 10-race card. Merton got his other wins with Northernchancellor ($17.38), Pine Bush Miracle ($15.74) and Resolved ($9.50). Boyd was first with Rocket Man Hill ($5.12), Poker Play ($4.60), B Eyelash ($3.30) and Bo Silas ($6.80). Trainers Darrin Monti and Rob Harmon both sent out two winners.
Tioga Downs will host its next card on Sunday starting at 12:30 p.m.
