Wall Street Edge Hits New Peak In Plainridge Feature

Wall Street Edge

For the second day in a row, rainy conditions set the stage for participants of racing at Plainridge Park on Tuesday, July 7, but it seemed like a walk in the park for Wall Street Edge, who went the mile of his life in a flawless effort to win the $20,000 featured conditioned trot.

Brett Beckwith sent Wall Street Edge out like a flash and set up shop on the point. By the time he hit the quarter, Wall Street Edge had opened up a five-length lead during that :27.4 panel and only throttled down minimally to the half, reaching there in :55.4. Mcstoned Again (Mitchell Cushing) was sitting a gapped second from the start and looked to close in, but Wall Street Edge was on a mission to three-quarters in 1:24.2, and by the time he reached the top of the stretch, his lead was extended to three lengths. Wall Street Edge was wrapped up down the lane and cruised home a winner in a lifetime-best 1:53.4 over the wet-fast track. Mcstoned Again was second best, with Sunburnt Silverado (Jay Randall) third.

Wall Street Edge ($3.60) took his fourth win of the year in 11 starts for owner Linda Kenney and Robert Kenney, who also trains the winner. The five-year-old Walner-Evelyn gelding is 14-for-76 lifetime.

A pair of Massachusetts-foaled three-year-olds won earlier in the day.

The pacing filly Seafood Treasure (Kevin Switzer Jr.) sat a pocket trip behind Always B Winning (Beckwith) before drawing clear in the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:55.3. Owned by Seafood Delight Stable and trained by Nick Vamvilis, Seafood Treasure ($5.80), a daughter of Courtly Choice-Shesgotthebeat, claimed her first career victory in her 10th start.

The trotting gelding Brewster Baker (Brad Irvine) went gate-to-wire while turning back Mcmikenmike (Drew Monti) and holding off the late-closing Essential (Bruce Ranger) to win by a head in 1:56.2. Brewster Baker ($3.20) took his second straight win for trainer Mike Eaton, who co-owns the gelding with Robert McHugh. He is now three-for-19 lifetime.

Both horses are eligible for the Massachusetts Breeders Stakes, which starts on Monday, Sept. 28.

There was a sole winner of the Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta in the ninth race. The unique combination of 9-2-5-6-7 returned $3,770.96 for a 20-cent wager.

Brett Beckwith had a driving hat trick while Mike Eaton scored two as a trainer on the 10-race card.

Racing will resume at Plainridge on Thursday at 4 p.m.
