Alagna Trainees Sweep Ohio Sires Stakes At Northfield
Driver Marvin Luna and trainer Tony Alagna teamed to win both $107,143 divisions of the fourth leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes for sophomore colt pacers at Northfield Park on Monday, July 6.
Luna drove Alagna trainee Myboypank to a 1:52.2 victory in the first division. It was the second Sires Stakes win of the season for the Catch The Fire-Bazooka Terror gelding, who also took a victory in the second leg at Eldorado Scioto Downs on May 25 in a lifetime mark of 1:50.
The pocket-popping Myboypank won Monday’s race by a neck over even-money favourite Tsunami Seas (Brett Miller), who had led through panels of :27, :56.4 and 1:25 and had rebuffed a first-over challenge from Crocodile Station (Dan Noble). When Is Parade (Tyler Smith) finished third.
Owned by Sam Bowie of West Palm Beach, Florida, Myboypank has hit the board in six of seven seasonal starts with four wins. He now has six victories and $141,437 in earnings from 11 lifetime starts.
The seasonally unbeaten Up In Place took the second division for his third straight Sires Stakes victory. The Lather Up-Helens Place Girl colt tripped the wire in 1:53.1 after wearing down pacesetter Rock Son (Dan Noble), who held had command through fractions of :27.1, :57.4 and 1:25.1 with the race favourite looming. Up The Place drew 1-3/4 lengths clear in the end. Pet Project (Trevor Smith) rounded out the top three.
Up In Place is a perfect five-for-five this season, including his three Sires Stakes wins. He recorded his lifetime mark of 1:50.4 in the second leg. The colt now has six wins and $216,336 in earnings from 13 career starts for owners John Barnard of Miami, Florida and Alagna Racing of Howell, New Jersey.
Celebrating its 50th season in 2026, the Ohio Sires Stakes continues on Saturday, July 11, with the first leg for two-year-old colt and filly trotters at Scioto Downs.
