Burke Pacing Trio Sweeps PASS Divisions At The Meadows
High temperatures were matched only by the high expectations for the two-year-old pacing fillies competing in three $62,120 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes divisions and three Stallion Series divisions Friday, July 3 at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
Trainer Ron Burke swept all three PASS divisions, with this leg known as the Sand Tart, in impressive fashion. The sweep began with favoured Miss Chevious capturing the first division, carded as Race 5 on the program. Driven by Yannick Gingras, the daughter of Tall Dark Stranger-Just Divine raced patiently in fourth through the early stages -- a :27.1 opening quarter and :56.2 half -- before advancing heading to the five-eighths. There, Miss Chevious picked up cover from Schnapps Hanover (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) through the final turn before unleashing a wrapped-up :27.4 final quarter to score in 1:52.2. Schnapps Hanover finished second while Play The Flute, driven by LeWayne Miller, finished third.
Miss Chevious (pictured) is owned and bred by William Donovan of Delray Beach, Florida, Craig Henderson of Chicago, Illinois, Joe Sbrocco of Brecksville, Ohio, and Libby and Parnell of Ocean Ridge, Florida.
A second-over trip and a powerful closing quarter were also the winning formula for My Taylors Swift and Wrenn in the second PASS division. Following an opening quarter in :28 and half in :57, Wrenn found cover for the daughter of Captaintreacherous-Sweet Heaven and followed it through three-quarters in 1:25.4 before a determined :26.4 final quarter carried her to a 1:52.4 victory. Positive Process, favourite and pacesetter throughout the mile, finished second for Dave Palone. Love Somebody finished third with Mark Herschberger in the bike.
My Taylors Swift is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC of Fredericktown, Pennsylvania, Weaver Bruscemi LLC of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Phillip Collura of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, and James Zito of Washington, Pennsylvania.
Iwillalwayslouveu's victory in the third PASS division was never in doubt. Starting from post two, Wrenn sent the homebred to the lead and controlled the pace throughout. After reaching the first quarter in :28.1 and half in :57.3, Iwillalwayslouveu finished with back-to-back :27.4 quarters to draw away by a wrapped 1-1/4-lengths in 1:53.1. Second choice Treacherous Bet (Andrew McCarthy) finished second, with Buenas Dias (Mike Wilder) rounding out the trifecta.
Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi bred and share ownership of the daughter of Sweet Lou-Breakheart Pass. Iwillalwayslouveu is now two-for-two in her young career with earnings of $38,102.
The fastest Stallion Series division of the evening was captured by Loyal To The End and driver Andrew McCarthy in a time of 1:52.1. Trained by Noel Daley, the daughter of Captaintreacherous-Lifetime Trust made an uncovered move down the backstretch to challenge the leader before sprinting home in :27.1 to win her $28,571 division.
Loyal To The End is owned by Let It Ride Stables Inc. of Boca Raton, Florida, Jesmeral Stable of New Rochelle, New York, Hutchison Stable LLC of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and CT Stables LLC of Washington Court House, Ohio.
Aestas, whose name fittingly means "Summer Heat" in Latin, sat a comfortable pocket trip to avoid swift early fractions before taking command at the five-eighths and drawing away to a four-length victory in her $28,571 Stallion Series division. Driven by Gingras for trainer Steve LeBlanc, Aestas paced the mile in 1:54.
The Papi Rob Hanover-Air Miles Hanover filly is owned by Glenn Dyke of Townsend, Delaware.
Treacherous Taps and Palone enjoyed the easiest journey of the Stallion Series divisions, winning in 1:54.3. Palone placed the Joe Bongiorno trainee on the lead from the outset, and the pair never looked back, setting fractions of :28.3, :57.4 and 1:25.3 before finishing 3-1/2-lengths in front for owners Let It Ride Stables Inc., Jesmeral Stable, and CT Stables LLC.
For the evening, Wrenn and Burke each recorded three victories, while sire Captaintreacherous produced a trifecta of winning freshmen.
Racing resumes Saturday, July 4, at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows with a 13-race program. First post is 12:45 p.m.
