Stakes Winners Headline Monday Mohawk Qualifiers
Stakes-winning female trotters Blue Jean Gal and Lasting Dream headlined a mixed Monday morning qualifying session on July 6 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The fastest on the trot was multiple Ontario stakes-winning three-year-old filly Blue Jean Gal, who tuned up with a 1:55.1 mile for trainer Julie Walker. Driven by James MacDonald, Blue Jean Gal set fractions of :29.1, :59.2 and 1:28.3 before trotting her fastest final quarter yet in :26.3. Elbows Up (Bob McClure), Cher Hill (Doug McNair) and recent Ontario Sires Stakes Gold winner Bingo Night (Tyler Jones) finished three-across three lengths behind.
The Trixton-Pine Knolls filly has earned nearly a quarter of a million dollars in her career, with just over $150,000 banked in her first five starts this season from three wins, including the SBOA Stakes and the first leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series for Gamble Farms Ont Ltd. of Fergus, Ont. Last year's Grassroots champion is 10-for-14 lifetime.
Back at her home track after winning the Kentucky Sires Stakes four-year-old trotting mares championship at Oak Grove last month, Determination homebred Lasting Dream won her qualifier in 1:56.2 with Tyler Jones in the bike. The Luc Blais trainee closed in :28.3 from the pocket behind Spiros (Mark MacDonald) to finish 1-3/4 lengths in front of that foe and third-place finisher Seasonal (James MacDonald).
The Cantab Hall-Dream Together mare, who was a 1:52.2 winner in the $211,268 Kentucky final last time out on June 22, has earned more than $900,000 lifetime.
Another qualifying winner for the Blais-Determination team, sub-1:49 Open pacer Calicojack Hanover scored in 1:54.4, sprinting his final frame in :26.1 out of the deuce for driver Bob McClure to collar front-ender Franco Santana N (Louis-Philippe Roy).
The lightly raced three-year-old Always B Miki gelding Major Miki posted the quickest pacing mile, kicking home in :26.3 to retake for the win in 1:52.2, nosing out filly Josies Joules (David Kelly). Trevor Henry drove for trainer Ben Hollingsworth and New York owner Double The Fun Stable.
Half of Monday's eight qualifiers were designated baby races with a pair of debuting pacing fillies from the Shawn Steacy stable, Remarkable Woman and Bankroll Hanover, crossing the wire a half-length apart in a 1:57.1 mile, fastest of the freshmen in action during the morning session.
Remarkable Woman (James MacDonald) looped to the lead after a :30.2 first quarter then accelerated through middle splits of 1:00.2 and 1:28.4 while expanding her margin to eight lengths. As she closed out her winning mile with back-to-back :28.2 panels, Bankroll Hanover (Mark MacDonald) came flying home in :26.3 to make up nine lengths in the final quarter and meet her stablemate near the wire. The winning filly, Remarkable Woman, is a Sweet Lou-Party Beach homebred for Hudson Standardbred Stable of Hudson, Que.
Leading the trotting two-year-olds, Shake Your Mass found her footing after recent miscues, racing wide to the first turn and leading all the way to win in 2:00.4 by 8-1/4 lengths for driver Bob McClure and trainer Jeff Williams. Two of the four freshmen in the race made miscues early on but the Muscle Mass-Stonebridge Glider filly cruised through fractions of :29.2, 1:00.1 and 1:31.1 before trotting home in :29.3 with P L Ucantcatchme (Matt Dupuis) following in second. Bred by Stonebridge Farm, Shake Your Mass was purchased for $57,000 from the 2025 London Classic Yearling Sale by Mardon Stables of Loretto, Ont.
