Martz Seven Goes Five-For-Five With Harrington Open Triumph

Martz Seven

Martz Seven put her undefeated seasonal record on the line with a step up to the $32,143 Open Handicap Trot at Harrington Raceway on Wednesday, July 1 and scored her fifth straight win in convincing fashion.

The four-year-old mare sprinted out of post three for Tony Morgan to head the field into the first turn, then performed a give-and-go by yielding to Speed Away (Corey Callahan) at the quarter in :28.1 and quickly circling back to command. She put up a half of :57.2 and slowed the pace further to three-quarters in 1:27.1, then rolled home a 2-1/4-length winner in 1:56. Speed Away held second over Just Like Magic (Allan Davis).

Martz Seven, an Indiana champion at two, moved to Harrington for owners Stephen Stoll, Nathan Yoder and Gary Graber at the start of this season and is perfect in five starts at the track. The daughter of Swan For All-La Mirada, trained by Tim Crissman, is now 12-for-34 lifetime. She paid $2.60 to win.

Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) three-year-old trotters completed their second leg of stakes action on the 15-race card with a quartet of $28,571 divisions.

Thiskissformaryell ($2.10, Jim Morand) led a trio of winners for trainer Les Givens on the program with a 1:59.3 victory in the second colt-and-gelding division. The Iron Mine Bucky-Twin B Kisses gelding, who swept both of his DSBF series at two, remained undefeated in the Delaware stakes action with a second straight DSBF triumph for Nanticoke Racing Inc., Jim Magno and Joseph Fonte. He beat Wolfpack Bourbon (Troy Beyer) by 4-3/4 lengths with Courtesy Call (Cody Poliseno) third.

Givens also won with Take It Easy ($6) and Black Hope ($10.40). After going three-for-four on the day, the trainer is winning at a 21.6 per cent rate this season with 37 tallies from 171 starts.

Topflight Champion ($2.10) cruised to his third straight victory in the first contest for males, winning by four lengths over Sweepea (Corey Callahan), followed by Cosmic Flash (Ross Shand). The Top Flight Angel-Js Foxy Lady colt led at every call in the 1:58.1 mile for his trainer/driver Eddie Dennis and owners E&K Stable Inc. and Robert Nibblett Jr.

Brenda Teague’s Crazy Amy ($20, Montrell Teague) was a 2:00.1 winner in the first filly division over Suburban Lady (Troy Beyer), with Rainingrainbows (Allan Davis) third. Trained by Clyde Francis, the Kodak Lindy-Caia filly was 3-3/4 lengths the best for her first career DSBF victory.

Emerys Angel ($6, Art Stafford Jr.) won the other filly division by 4-1/4 lengths in 2:00.3 for owners Stacy Johnson-Stafford and Wyatt Starkey. Angelic Valentine (Brandon Givens) was second over Sheas Blustone (Mark King). The daughter of Top Flight Angel-Judy Luns recorded her second straight score for trainer Johnson-Stafford.

The top eight point earners from the elimination legs will return to compete in the $110,000 USD final on July 23.

Brandon Givens and Allan Davis each had three wins on the card. Jim Morand had a double.
