Stay Pumped Catches Air Late In Inverness Winners Over

Stay Pumped

Stay Pumped surged with a :27.3 last quarter to win her first start in the $2,000 Winners Over Pace class at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday, July 1.

Keigan Madden slotted Stay Pumped in third behind a :29.3 first quarter set by Whats Up Doc (Redmond Doucet), who got a favourable second panel to the half in 1:00.1. Pocket-sitter Shir Gain (Rod Gillis), Stay Pumped and fourth-placed Eastcoast Invader (Monica Sutherland) left the line simultaneously as they entered the third turn, and that outer flow made progress on Whats Up Doc to three-quarters in 1:30.2. Stay Pumped swung three-wide entering the last turn to battle alongside Whats Up Doc and Shir Gain, and she flew down the lane to beat Whats Up Doc by a half-length in 1:58.2. Shir Gain was third.

Stay Pumped has three wins in her last four starts for trainer Ethan MacLean, who took over her care after the mare’s April 27 start. The daughter of Stay Hungry-Pump My Ride, owned by Michael Gillis of Windsor, Ont., is now 16-for-79 lifetime with $90,818 in earnings. She moved to Nova Scotia when acquired by Gillis in May and now has five wins in 20 starts this year. As the 7-2 fourth choice in the field of five, she returned $9.30.
