McCarthy Dominates Harrah’s Philadelphia Baby Races
Driver Andrew McCarthy had a pretty good morning at Harrah’s Philadelphia, winning seven qualifiers, including half of the 12 that were devoted to babies on Tuesday, June 30.
Among McCarthy's winners were the fastest freshmen on their respective gaits. On the pace, he drove the Stay Hungry-Pay The Price gelding Pay The Juice, coming home in :27.1 from the pocket to stop the timer in 1:56.2 for trainer/owner Taylor Gower, and on the trot, he drove the International Moni-Lily Kronos IT filly Ops Mearas S, who finished on the front in :57.3 to post a 1:58.3 triumph for trainer Nicklas Andersen and owner Snogarps Gard Inc.
Aside from the "Magnificent Seven" of Andrew McCarthy, Tim Tetrick drove three winners during the 16-race qualifying session, while McCarthy's brother Todd had two. Noel Daley harnessed three winners; Nicklas Andersen had two wins, as did Jamie Sullivan and “P. Engblom,” with Per and Petter each having one in their stable win.
To finish out the United Nations theme, Dexter Dunn piloted a winner, and his 22-year-old nephew Jacob, a promising G young driver in New Zealand who just won his first Grade 1 race (with Daisy Bay in the Delightful Lady Classic at the Alexandra racetrack), got his first three charted North American lines.
