Logan Park Best In Mohawk Open
Logan Park rebounded from his final-turn break in the North America Cup night Free-For-All with an in-command front-end victory in the $40,000 Open Trot on Sunday, June 28 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Doug McNair was in no hurry to land the gelding on top, floating him three-wide into the first turn as the three-time O’Brien Award-winning trotter glided to the lead past a :26.4 quarter. The field was single-file through the half in :56 until Fashion Frenzie (Louis-Philippe Roy) tipped out of third to press the leader into the final turn. Logan Park reached three-quarters in 1:24.2 with that rival neutralized, and McNair gave his gelding little encouragement down the lane to sail home a 1:52 winner by 1-1/2 lengths. Pocket-sitter Gaines Hanover (Jody Jamieson) held second over the sprinting Usain Hanover (J.R. Plante).
Logan Park has won three of six starts this year, with two defeats involving back-half breaks. The Kyle Fellows trainee is now 47-for-108 lifetime with $2,361,405 in earnings for owners Outofthepark Stable of Rockwood, Ont., Reg Higgs of Blenheim, Ont. and Arpad Szabo of Bradford, Ont. The son of Archangel-Rite Outa The Park has been Canada’s champion older trotting male for the past three seasons and has made the beginnings of a solid case for the grand slam, with three Mohawk Open wins so far in 2026.
There were four Pop-Up Series divisions on the card with trotters contesting their first leg. Nothingbutadreamer ($4.90) was the fastest winner with a 1:52.3 mile. Taking the other splits were Roxie Hart ($3.10) in 1:55.1, Kadiddle ($4.60) in 1:54.2 and Royal Beluga ($13.60) in 1:54. The series is for horses that have started for a purse of $12,000 or less in their past four starts or have earned less than $2,000 per start in 2025-2026, with winners over $50,000 this year ineligible.
