Endurance Sets Currier & Ives Record Friday
Endurance lived up to his name in the $127,711 Currier & Ives for three-year-old colt trotters at The Meadows on Friday, June 26,, overcoming post nine in the 10-horse field to establish a stakes record with a 1:52.4 victory.
Unhurried early, regular driver Andrew McCarthy settled Endurance mid-pack and avoided the brisk early fractions of :27.1, :55.2 and 1:24.1 posted by R Tommy Collins (Justin Irvine). When Hamlet Hall (Dave Palone) moved first-over, McCarthy followed at the three-eighths, but stalled cover left Endurance three-wide approaching the five-eighths. As the leaders began to tire, Endurance and McCarthy found room along the rail and held off Hamlet Hall to secure the victory by more than three lengths. Captain Vodka (Chris Lems) rounded out the top trio.
A three-year-old son of Captain Corey-Love Session, Endurance now owns nine wins in 12 starts and has earned more than $1 million for trainer Chris Beaver and owners Super Endurance Stable of Radner, Oh., Bill Manes of Rockwood, Ont., Leo Fleming of Campbellville, Ont. and Mark Moger of Amelia Island, Fl.
