Chapvious Delivers In Vernon Friday Feature

Chapvious winning at Vernon Downs

Even-money favourite Chapvious, driven by Leon Bailey, delivered on her pari-mutuel promise at Vernon Downs in the Friday, June 26 feature, a $10,563 conditioned optional claiming trot.

Chapvious landed in third behind the outside leavers off the gate with Lous Lancelot (James Lackey) leading to the quarter in :27.4 then slowing things down in a :30.3 second panel, reaching the half in :58.2. Tiktok Roy (Jimmy Whittemore) was first to make a move from the backfield and gained a short lead on the outside at three-quarters in 1:27.2. As the trotters turned for home, Chapvious swung out third-over then three-wide to charge up alongside Tiktok Roy in the stretch drive to the wire, where the mare claimed the win by a quarter of a length in 1:56.4. Lous Lancelot settled for third three lengths behind.

Rebounding off a miscue last time out, Chapvious has succeeded in three of her last four starts and paid $4.30 to win. Trained by George Ducharme, the four-year-old daughter of Devious Man-Chaperess is a homebred for Purple Haze Stables of Fairport, New York. The mare now has seven career victories and more than $271,000 in earnings.

During Friday's card, Vernon Downs honoured driver Jeff Gregory for getting his 7,000th career win at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday with Highway Six.

Live harness racing returns to Vernon on Saturday, June 27 with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
