Bettor On Than Off Tops Truro Pacers

Bettor On Than Off winning at Truro Raceway

Trainer Danny Romo's Bettor On Than Off, the 2025 Horse of the Year at Truro Raceway, was back on top with a wire-to-wire winning effort in the Winners Over Pace on Friday, June 26.

Starting from the outside post six in the $2,500 feature with Keith Legge catch-driving, Bettor On Than Off fired across for the lead by the first turn and had a two-length advantage atop a single-file field to the quarter in :27.1 before 3-5 favourite Nova Scotia Strong (Darren Crowe) advanced first-over from fourth to confront the fast leaver as they raced to the half in :56. Bettor On Than Off kept that challenger at bay through three-quarters in 1:25.1 and had plenty left to offer as they headed for home. Rounding the final turn, Nova Scotia Strong tucked in behind Bettor On Than Off, who took off in the lane to win by nearly six lengths in 1:54.1. Like A Glove (Noah Whebby) followed back in third.

Bettor On Than Off was a winner in his season's debut in the top class on May 22 and again last week a notch below. In his return to the Winners Over level, he paid $11.70 as the 9-2 third wagering choice. The seven-year-old Bettors Delight-Lights Go Out gelding now has 19 career victories from 72 starts.

The last time Legge partnered up with Bettor On Than Off was in August 2025 when the pacer took his lifetime mark of 1:54.

Fesh off his runner-up finish in the Atlantic Regional Driving Championship on Wednesday at Summerside Raceway to lock up a spot in next month's National Driving Championship, Legge was one of just three drivers to make winner's circle appearances during Truro's nine-race card on Friday evening. Legge, Darren Crowe and Jeff Ellis shared the spotlight, each winning three races.
