Free-For-All Stars Clash Saturday In Charlottetown
The Free-For-All pacers take centre stage on Saturday, June 27 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has a 15-dash presentation starting at 6 p.m. (ADT) with a pair of $10,000 P.E.I. Free-For-All Series divisions in races 12 and 14.
Also on the evening, the Prince Edward Island Standardbred Horse Owner’s Association is hosting its annual Member/Owners Night. Join the association in the Trackside Tent during a card that will include cooler presentations after every race, food service and an evening celebrating the people who make the P.E.I. harness racing industry the success story that it is.
The P.E.I. Free-For-All Series event in race 14 has Ammo as the 5-2 morning line favourite from post three for driver Marc Campbell, trainer Ron Matheson and P.E.I. owners Patrick Morris of Charlottetown and Woodmere Farms of Marshfield. The six-year-old Sweet Lou-Beach Gal stallion, a career winner of more than $977,000 who won his P.E.I. debut on June 13 in the Cecil Ladner Memorial, takes on other top contenders Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes) with post one and Trumpster Blues (Adam Merner) from post four. Also populating the Free-For-All field are Nuttin But Finesse (Mike Downey), Fast Louie (Gilles Barrieau) and Arbitrage Hanover (Ken Murphy).
The "Post Time Picks" has selected Ammo on top: “Ammo fired off the wings in his P.E.I. debut and went right down the road to victory closing it out in 28 seconds. We’re thinking the tactics will be the same tonight so there’s a strong chance he doubles up at Red Shores.”
Get Wings is the top choice in the race 12 division of the P.E.I. Free-For-All Series from post four with Marc Campbell in the race bike for trainer Vaughan Doyle and P.E.I. owners Gary Ford of Stratford and Janet Kinney of Wheatley River. Coming off a Preferred win last Saturday at Charlottetown, the four-year-old son of Bettors Wish-The Captains Angel gets the nod over post six starter Twin B Tuffenuff (Gilles Barrieau) and rail controller Blood Money (Mike Downey). Other entries include Bettor Than Spring (Ken Murphy), Malevolent (Paul Langille) and Merigo Magic (Adam Merner).
The evening also has a trio of P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series Grassroots divisions carrying $6,000 purses in races three, eight and 10.
Starship Glyde is the morning line favourite in the race three split from post six with Paul Langille driving the Earl Watts trainee for owner Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I.
In race eight, Big Pond Cash is favoured from post three with Campbell in the seat for trainer Watts and owners Matt & David Burke of Stratford, P.E.I., and Ryan MacLeod and Everett MacLeod of Souris, P.E.I.
Abiding Art gets the top call in the race 10 division from post six with Campbell driving for trainer George Rennison and owners Jack Melanson and Brendan Melanson of Stanley Bridge, P.E.I.
In regular racing action, Metaman is favoured in the race five Fed Ex-sponsored pace from post nine with Campbell driving for trainer David O’Brien, who co-owns with Linda O’Brien of Charlottetown.
